Bernie says Boston marathon bomber and sexual assailants should be allowed to vote

The thinking is that most felons would vote democrat. If it were the opposite, Bernie would be against it and most republican politicians would be for it.

I think if a person serves their time they should be able to vote. I don't think people currently in prison should be able to vote.

If we’re going to forgive student loan debt then why stop there, also forgive due process sentencing.

I was going to post this too.

What an idiot Sanders is... but he speaks with passion and the lemmings follow.

If you are too stupid or corrupt to follow the laws of our country, why should you then get to vote on future laws and leaders of our nation. If you choose to be uncivilized you give up the right to participate in a civil society.

Choices have consequences.

Soon we will look like Mexico... all these cartel leaders have put the people in charge who will look the other way while they break the laws. The leaders are now powerless to stop corruption because no one knows who is a plant undermining cleaning up the criminals. The bad dudes have their henchmen take out the forces trying to go back to law and order.

If you don't believe in law and order based on your behavior... you don't get to participate in our country's future law and order.

Whether folks understand it or not... there is a simple principle of behavior... that has been true as long as humans have lived... in reality it works in the animal and insect kingdom also:

PAIN causes change!

Yes, regardless of whether folks like the way that sounds or feels...
Folks react to pain... or the potential pain (fear of pain)...
By choosing behavior or NOT choosing behavior.

And choices have PRO's and CONs... ALL choices have PROs and CONs...
It is just the way life works.

Yeah... many well meaning folks have tried to change that format...
NONE of them succeeded...
Because it is just human nature to do things certain ways...
And human nature does not change.

IMO the smart person... learns those patterns...
The other person... thinks they can do as they please... without consequences.
Problem is... when those other people cause pain for others...
Something must be done...
Which is why we have laws!
The law is not the boogey man...
Rather the law is there to protect everyone from the bad side of human nature.

We as a society would do a lot better if we followed the laws, rather than rebelling against them!

And it just does not make any sense at all, to have folks that rebel intentionally, contributing to making the laws they break...
:(

The Democrats are aware that they have the raw vote lead nationally and demographic data shows that remaining for the foreseeable future. If it just wasn't for the pesky fact that we aren't a democracy.

Well, federal law also prohibits a convicted felon from purchasing or owning a gun. If Dems want to give felons the right to vote with time served, all things being "fair," does that mean they get their right to own a gun with time served? After all, according to dems they have paid for their crime and face no more consequences for their actions?

As old as Bernie is, you'd think he would remember we are a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy....:nono:,

Felons showed society they could not abide by civilized societies rules, so they no longer get to contribute to the laws and rules, nor are protected to have freedom, a vote, or a gun...

Since the burn wants them to be able to vote while in prison, I guess they ought to have the right to their gun in prison too?

Quote from Bernie:
So, I believe that people who commit crimes, they pay the price. When they get out of jail, I believe they certainly should have the right the vote, but I do believe that even if they are in jail, they’re paying their price to society, but that should not take away their inherent American right to participate in our democracy.”

Do you believe in democracy? Do you believe that every single American 18 years of age or older who is an American citizen has the right to vote?” Sanders continued. “This is a democracy. We’ve got to expand that democracy and I believe that every single person does have the right to vote.”

Remember we are a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy....oops,

The "right to vote" is not positively enshrined in the Constitution. Amendments have dealt with doing away with certain restrictions due to race and age etc...but that's it.

Voting for Congress is now set by the states as is voting for Presidential electors. Indeed Bush v. Gore clearly stated that the right to vote for those electors is not in the Constitution and remains the purview of the individual states.

But by the same token, the Constitution does not prevent the creation of a STATUTORY right to vote by state, even if it appears to prevent a federal right of such a sort by assigning those responsibilities to the individual states. Indeed, this is the movement we see in individual states to defeat the purpose of the electoral college through assigning state electors according to the winner of the national popular vote.

We are not democracy and then left is doing everything they can to change that through the states.
