‘Division is of the devil,’ United Methodist bishop says as 193 churches disaffiliate

I know Sound Guy has mentioned this, but looks like the UMC is splitting pretty badly.

It looks like the LBGTQ issue is the main factor.

The UMC is not the only church who has been wrestling with this, the SBC has booted some churches over the LBGTQ issue as well.

LBGTQ is just a small part.

Main concern is that the current liberal administration will not enforce the rules of the church if they disagree with it. So we have Bishops saying Jesus is not the only way, God is trans, Bible is full of lies, etc, and they do nothing.

The liberal bishops *caused* this division by ignoring the faith and attempting to re-write the Bible. (Kinda like PETA did)

Doesn't matter, the NGA bishop shutdown the process, again ignoring the rules of the church, so even though there is a lawsuit, it's doubtful any will get to leave here with their property. Then the Conference can sell all those church buildings for shopping centers and use the money to pay their salaries and promote their political agenda as the people leave and they close the churches without agreement of the church itself.

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. ...

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Part of the problem also goes back to when the Methodists began ordaining women to be ministers and allowing them to be the lead pastors in churches. The Bible is quite clear that women are not to be spiritual leaders over men. Every female Methodist minister I encountered were bleeding heart liberals.

Funny how the headline says "Division is of the Devil", but the real issues is, perversion of God's word is of the Devil.

It's right there in the scripture for anyone who cares to read it.

They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. ...

I don't understand the KJV only people. It's a good Bible, but not the only good translation, and it wasn't anywhere close to being the first Bible. Funny how many people think it was.

An argument can be made that the change in how certain words are interpreted today vs what they meant in King James English could make the literal reading of it less accurate than translations into the modern language. And there's a verse or two that moden scholars say was not in the original manuscripts. It's still a good Bible, but so are the NIV and ESV. Any differences are generally in word translation, but none of that changes the message.

Correct. The KJV was not the first printed Bible. King James wanted a new translation of the Bible to settle some touchy religious issues in his kingdom and to solidify his own power.

I prefer the NIV. It's written in today's English, which helps make it more understandable. Moses wrote Genesis in Hebrew. The entire New Testament was originally written in Greek. Even though the Bible has been translated into many languages, it all still means the same thing. For example, Genesis 1: 1-2 in Greek is, "Στην αρχή ο Θεός δημιούργησε τους ουρανούς και τη γη. Τώρα η γη ήταν άμορφη και άδεια, το σκοτάδι ήταν πάνω από την επιφάνεια του βαθέως, και το Πνεύμα του Θεού αιωρούνταν πάνω από τα νερά.

In German it's: Am Anfang schuf Gott Himmel und Erde. Jetzt war die Erde formlos und leer, Dunkelheit lag über der Oberfläche der Tiefe, und der Geist Gottes schwebte über den Wassern.

In Korean (For J-man): 태초에 하나님이 천지를 창조하셨다. 땅이 혼돈하고 공허하며 흑암이 깊음 위에 있고 하나님의 영은 물 위에 운행하시니라

In English: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

All these languages are saying the same thing.

You left out a translation to Cat for cptlo.

In Texas, a Methodist church held a ''family friendly'' drag night.

Thus why 200 churches in North Georgia asked to be able to vote on leaving. Judge ruled last eeek that the churches must be allowed to vote.

Regardless of the denomination, when a church gets outside of God's word, they will run into trouble.

And that includes the old time churches that think they don't have to change anything about how they worship as compared to decades ago. They won't get any young people, so the church dies.

That's true. I hope some news outlet keeps an eye out on the church to report on how they're doing in the future. Most of the congregants will probably be trannys and drag queens.

My MiL doesn't think Christian Contemporary music should be played, nor should there be bands. She thinks all churches should do things how they have been done for the last 100 years. I went to one of those churches before and 80% of the congregation were in their late 60s and above and they were against change. Those of us adults who were younger left and took our families with us.

There's a lot of the contemporary music I don't personally care for. But that's just my taste; as long as it's doctrinally sound and "speaks" to people, it's all good. I realize young people might not relate to "Bringing in the Sheaves" and such.

Reality is, church has a lot more to compete with than it did decades ago, especially when it comes to young people. Social media, video games, etc. There's nothing wrong with having programs to attract and interest young people (and old people) so long as it's Christ centered.

If you want your church to grow, you need young people and a lot of traditional churches are finding that difficult to do, especially when the old people refuse change. I actually had the following conversation with the church I mentioned earlier.

Old person - My family has been coming to this church for three generations and this is the way we've always done it.

Me - Look around you and tell me what is missing in the church.

Old person - I don't know what you're talking about.

Me - What's missing is young adults with children. My wife and I are the only couple left in this church with children.

Old person - So?

Me - You had the previous pastor removed because he addressed this issue a lot. He was right when he said this was a dying church. You blamed him as the reason it was dying. The truth is the church is dying because of you and all the other older people. You refuse change. Now you know why all the others left and took their kids with them to McEachern. That's where my family is going to.

Its a shame when people in a church are like this.
