Over 260 Georgia churches break away from United Methodist Church over LGBTQ issues

Loving a homosexual spiritually and putting them in a position of influence is two totally different things IMO. If I were in a decision making position within a congregation I would vote to leave the UMC also. The Bible/Torah/Quran do not mince words on this subject it is a sin.

Around 7000 churches have left the UMC nationwide at this point, pretty much all of them that can as the provision in church law that allowed them to leave with their property expires in a few weeks and takes months to implement.

While the sexual issues were important, another big one was that the bishops were ignoring church law and the council was letting them get away with it. Any group that ignores it's own laws is dysfunctional and with a church, the conflict blocks evangelism.

McEachern UMC in Powder Springs had voted to leave, met all the requirements, but the final step was approval during a North GA Conference meeting. Short version: MUMC was blocked from leaving due to a lot of lying going on during the meeting.

That next day (Sunday) 2/3s of the church met in the Funeral Home Chapel across the street and started a new Global Methodist Church.

I wish both groups well, but I know who I would support if I was still going there. (I'd be across the street)

While I realize this thread relates to UMC the sad truth is many churches under the "Christian" umbrella are struggling to keep members, and struggling not just for non-Biblical based teaching but also for unethical conduct. I guess that's to be expected when groups decide to file for the tax exemption and form a church for the wrong reasons.

Stonewall put it pretty well.

Joking aside, we should love homosexuals, as they are our brothers and sisters. But condoning or accepting sin is another matter. Churches who do are not in God's word.

Baptists haggle over stuff too. Trust me.
Yeah and this won't end it. I'm a member of a Facebook group for people and churches leaving and already had many heated discussions about how the evil contemporary music should be removed, only the King James Bible should be used, etc, etc.

Need to remember to be a Jesus Church first.

We'll see how it goes.
