I'm a bit torn on this one.
I do think the former CEO made a mistake by killing off the HEMI like he did. It was a very popular engine, and aside from the lifter issues (which were unofficially said to be fixed in 2019), it's been a fairly reliable and powerful engine. And, it sounds great, which is what some people are missing with the new six banger. As the new CEO correctly stated; Americans like choice, so it might have been wise to continue the HEMI while offering the new, Hurricane engine as well.
Should they bring it back? I think this partly depends on how reliable the Hurricane proves to be. So far, the engine, in both variants, have received excellent reviews for it's power and smoothness. Most testers have stated they don't miss the HEMI, except for that beautiful growl it made.
As good and popular of an engine as the HEMI has been, it's showing it's age and should probably be at least updated if they choose to bring it back. And, there is a fairly credible rumor that RAM already has a next gen HEMI in development. If that is true, it would make little sense for Stellantis to continue to pour money into the old engine.
I like my HEMI. Excellent power, sounds great, smooth and gets pretty amazing gas mileage to be what it is. Being that my truck is only 2 years old, paid for, and only has 16K on the clock, I can't see myself changing anytime soon. And, I would prefer to give the Hurricane a year or two to prove itself.
