Realistic Expectations

For the sake of discussion, that's say Trump wins. Campaign rhetoric aside, what can we expect?

These are my opinions, some of you might disagree.

Border - He will return to same policy he had in his first term. By and large, it worked. I do hope his administration looks into streamlining immigration and citizenship for those who are pristine and want to come here, behave and work. We need the workers for when the economy recovers.

Economy and inflation - I do believe he'll do the right things and the economy will start to get better. But it's going to take some time. An awful lot of damage has been done that can't be repaired immediately. I do expect venture capital to loosen up, and hopefully spur investment and growth. Fixing inflation won't be a quick fix either. Honestly, our current inflation is only partly because of Biden's policies, it's also because of all the COVID policies and the handouts. We need some social change, which will take time. One of the major factors in inflation is oil prices. I do think Trump will immediately "open the taps", but will the oil companies step up to restart drilling and fracking? I wouldn't blame them for being cautious about investing huge money into cranking things back up after how the Biden administration screwed them. We'll need to see some momentum on inflation before the feds will cut rates, and a rate cut is needed to help with business growth and especially the housing market. So yes, I think Trump will do the right things, but it won't be an overnight fix.

Foreign policy and world events - Again, it will take time for some of this to work out. While other world leaders may or may not like Trump, I think they respect him in that they know he won't screw around. Can he stop the war in Ukraine as quickly as he says? I seriously doubt it. But I hope he will put some accountability into us supplying Ukraine with weapons and money. And I do thing Putin will be more concerned about pissing Trump off than Biden, but not sure how far that will go. Israel? Trump will give them what they need to end that crap quickly. China, Taiwan? Who knows?

Social and religious issues - Trump will not push or support the woke movement. I don't think he'll try and squash speech or idea, but he won't champion the weirdos like the left does. Trump has put a lot of effort into reaching out to minorities and I hope he continues that. He will be pro family and supportive of religious freedom. I doubt he will push the abortion issue from the White House, he'll allow the states to handle it as he should. I'm not concerned about him in this area.

Congressional cooperation. If the GOP gets control of congress, I suspect they will support him far more this time than they did before. This is Trump's party now, they will work with him. Hopefully, the GOP will work to solve some of the problems we have.

The swamp - I think the plan was to drain the swamp in his second term, and that's why they took Trump out. I do expect that Trump will do a lot of house cleaning in the Justice Department and Armed Forces. Not necessarily retribution as some have said, but just what needs to be done. I think most of us here agree that there's a lot of rot up there that needs to be cut out.

I'm not the least bit concerned about Trump harming the "Democracy". The guy and party he would be replacing are the real threat.

Deficit and Debt - It's gonna get worse before it gets better. We've got to take the chains off the economy and reshape society before we can start to turn that around. It will take some time, and a congress who gives a damn. So, you tell me.

Social unrest will increase because the people who funded and supplied the riots before will do it again.

But I'll say this...after what has happened under Biden; if Trump can turn this around, the Democrats won't be winning many elections for awhile. And that's OK with me, except the GOP tends to get sorry when the pressure is off.

One note about this....US oil production is higher under Biden than Trump.

Agreed. Just returning to Trump's prior policies would make a huge difference. Deporting some of the illegals here now would be nice too.

Regarding inflation and the economy, I largely agree (except for the oil point above) but Trump has tendencies to want to spend lots of money that we don't have. Hopefully the Trump tax cuts will get extended or made permanent.

Hopefully he'll use some of the ideas about moving some of the large agencies to other parts of the country instead of doing things like building a huge new FBI building as has been mentioned.

But I'll say this...after what has happened under Biden; if Trump can turn this around, the Democrats won't be winning many elections for awhile.
His VP pick will be important.

But that's just part of the story. Our usage is up also, and we are buying from other countries again.

And we're not getting as much revenues from land leases.

Our exports are down sharply from four years ago. This has allowed Russia to sell far more oil, which is helping to finance their war. And it's hurting our GDP.

Had the pipeline gotten finished, oil would be cheaper to get from Alaska to the mainland.

We could be in far better shape and gas prices at the pump should be lower. The Democrats want high gas prices so they can push their EV agenda. But that hurts the economy overall.

As long as it’s an improvement over what the previous 4 years have given us I really don’t care. He’ll never make us all happy even if he checks every major box, too many variables and too many differing opinions.

I’d be happy if he kept our troops out of unnecessary wars, urged Congress to stop funding wars which don’t directly affect us, closes the border and resort back to standard process and quota limit for immigration, and appoints more “conservative leaning”Justices.

We all hope the next 4 years, prices of life stop increasing.

Inflation is bad but I don't believe that guy. No way groceries have increased that much. Maybe one or two of the items he bought went up a huge amount that skewed the numbers. Or maybe some items were only available from other sellers. Or maybe he clicked reorder multiple times.

I agree. He was going after clicks to make money.
