PSA: Vote scheduled for Nov 5th

The BOE has decided to attempt to extend the ESPLOST 3 years into the current 5 years SPLOST to get a jump on constuction of new schools and updates to existing ones. Also I guess it gives them time to try again if this one fails. :)

The vote is NOV 5th. They have thrown a bone to us that they will continue to make the payments on the old $120 million dollar bond so it stays off our property taxes. (it would be about 1.8 mil according to the board). Smart move in my opinion since the SPLOST stopping would mean we'd see that 1.8 mil + another 30 million bond on our taxes the next year, so this gives us all an incentive to approve it.

The current ESPLOST expires March of 2021 and the new tax would start just as this one expires for five years.

At this point I'll vote for it, I can shop anywhere, but unless I want to move, property taxes will nail me no matter what.

Oh yeah, it's "for the Children!" Ugg.

I'm for it, too. But the original bond was for 176 million, not 120. They have used the previous ESPLOST to pay down that bond debt to 79 million. We can't pay the bonds off early, there is no early payment clause in the bond agreement. This is a consumption tax, paid by everyone that shops in Paulding County, renters squatters, and neighboring counties. Isn't that better than putting in on the backs of home owners? They will continue to pay down the original long term bond debt and get a short term bond to kick start the improvements, but paid off before this ESPLOST expires.
