Kemp declares public safety state of emergency

aka "The Jackal"
This afternoon, apparently after failed discussions with Mayor Bottoms, Governor Kemp ordered 1000 National Guard troops into the City of Atlanta and granted them.police powers under HIS direction.

Good. 1 night, 24 shot, 2 dead, unheard of. Not to mention that the APD watched the DPS building burn with people in it.

You will almost never hear me say "good" to untrained and lightly trained guardsmen with.arrest powers. I say good here. When politicians give the streets over to criminals and local police, for whatever reason, look the other way, it's time.

What is it with the mayors of large American cities ??

BottomDweller is a national disgrace.

The mayor of Phoenix is an idiot.

Thankfully, our Scottsdale mayor seems to run a pretty tight ( & right leaning) ship.

That's exactly my worries, sending in young untrained "troops" to police areas many experienced LE personnel would rather not currently go into is a recipe for disaster. I pray things don't escalate out of control. I have feared a staged incident to elevate gun control measures for a while. I understand someone has to do it and if the APD can't or will not then I guess he has little choice.

It kinda feels like it's setting itself up to not end well.

The mob is empowered, the guard is inexperienced and that's not a good combination, amiright?

The National Guard has a lot of MP units, where most of the guardsmen are also civilian police officers. National Guard MP units are trained in riot control as well. In fact, I would put their riot control training as more intense and detailed than civilian police departments. I was an MP instructor for four years and riot control was one of several classes I taught. National Guard Infantry units are also trained in riot control. It will be the leadership of those units put into Atlanta that will tell the tale.

Many of those Guardsmen are also combat veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan.

And many are young punks out of high school who weigh in at a total of a buck thirty and have never had a fight in their life. Now to possibly be face to face with an armed thug itching for 15 minutes of fame.

A lot of young punks right out of high school performed admirably in all our wars and are far better trained than the hoods in Atlanta.

True

&

True

..... I just keep getting flashbacks to Kent State with overtired Guardsman & a volatile crowd.

I'm picturing some clown from Antifa getting into the face of a Guardsman who isn't in the mood to take any smack.

You get my point, it’s not a knock towards our troops. It’s just not a good plan. It’s a state and local issue, those leaders should be held accountable for their failure to secure their districts.

^^This, all day long!

Ms. Largebottoms has turned her back on the citizens of Atlanta, and it's the state's duty to protect the public. Sucks, but it is what it is.

Hopefully, The People will see what yet another weak Democrat has done to them.

Kinky Large-Bottoms is a disgrace as a leader of a once great city. She has proven entirely incompetent from the beginning of these illegal riotous activities. If the local authorities cannot handle a situation then the State should. As for situations having the potential of escalating due to the Guard's presence. Don't poke the Bear. If you aren't on the street whether participating or witnessing criminal acts your chances of being collateral damage decrease to near zero. I have little fear (zero) of overzealous Guardsmen shooting me on my property minding my own business.

Fifty-some years ago my MO Army NG unit was activated to quell some rioting in the Kansas City area. We were deployed to ride in KCMO PD cars with an officer. One of the guys in my unit got in the front seat of the car, slammed the butt of the stock of his M-1 into the floorboard, and discharged a round through the roof of the cruiser. Despite the fact that the guy who did it was a recent returnee from Nam, we all had to unlock and unload, and carry the loaded clip out of the gun. My MOS had me qualified to carry a M-1911 .45, so I didn't have to fumble around with all that.

Well, she's figured out her response, she's doing the mask requirement.

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms said she would sign an order Wednesday requiring the use of masks in the city, joining other local governments who are going beyond Gov. Brian Kemp’s order that encourages but not mandates face coverings.
The mayor told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution she was compelled to enact the restriction because of the rising number of coronavirus cases, specifically in minority communities, after state officials didn't stop other cities from enforcing mandates.
“The state has allowed it to stand and we’re going to follow suit. Leading has as much to do with leading as following,” she said. “Right now we’re following other cities in the state.”
