60 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s handling of coronavirus: Gallup poll

I like both of his advisers, they seem quite competent. But the bureaucracy has been a complete cluster. I'm not even going to mention how he almost breaks his arm patting himself on the back every night, or calling it The China Virus just to piss people off.

My biggest gripe was that he was about 2 weeks late to the party.

The daily briefings are somewhat informative mostly when Trump isn't the one talking. However, I don't mind so much that he calls it the China Virus. China has some major explaining to do and should be held accountable as much as possible.

2019/2020 Flu season

According to CDC, this year's flu season has led to at least 17 million medical visits and 370,000 hospitalizations. CDC found that the percentage of outpatient visits for influenza-like illness increased to 5.2% in the week ending on March 7, up from 5.1% the previous week. The national baseline for those visits is 2.4%.

Between 36 million and 51 million people have been stricken with the flu as of March 7, according to the latest CDC data.

CDC estimated that there have been at least 22,000 deaths related to the flu so far this season.

2020 Corona Season
Corona 112,468 confirmed
1841 dead

Based on those numbers the death rate for coronavirus is much higher. However, the number of people with coronavirus is way higher than the number of confirmed cases.

Yes, death rate is much higher...Between 36 million and 51 million people have been stricken with the flu as of March 7, according to the latest CDC data.

I also wonder if the social distancing shelter in place has helped reduce the number of flu cases too?

This year the B strand was especially tough on children. Taking them all out of school must have put a halt to many of them spreading it to each other, saving lives.

Here are the top six countries by confirmed cases (based on the case numbers from the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University as of 2:30 pm ET March 27) in descending order:

  1. USA (94,238)

  2. Italy (86,498)
  3. Spain (64,059)

  4. Germany (49,344)

  5. Iran (32,332)

  6. France (29,593)
Now, here are the top six countries by confirmed cases per million people (based on population numbers from the CIA World Fact Book) in descending order:

  1. Italy (1386.13)

  2. Spain (1280.78)

  3. Germany (615.57)

  4. France (436.17)

  5. Iran (380.72)

  6. USA (283.30)
Well, isn't that interesting? The United States' confirmed cases per capita are the lowest of the top six countries affected by the virus. Now, there are some who would argue that the United States testing lags behind that of other countries. If we want to assume that there is a discrepancy in testing between countries and that selection bias in testing undercounts the infection rate, then the number of coronavirus deaths is a more accurate way of measuring the impact of the pandemic in each country. So, let's look at total confirmed deaths in descending order.

  1. Italy (9,134)
  2. Spain (4,934)

  3. Iran (2,378)
  4. France (1,698)

  5. USA (1,438)

  6. Germany (304)

Comparisons of the 2019-2020 flu season (which is still open) against Covid 19 seem bogus to me since the flu counts have been going since last summer. Covid 19 on the other hand has only been going for 3 months. If they want to compare it in 6 months or so, then we might see some valid comparisons.

When this thing passes and is finally off the front page of every 24-hour news broadcast there will be some hard questions to answer. I pray the numbers begin to improve soon, I really do. However, it doesn’t negate my concerns over how exactly this issue justifies the economic devastation not just in our country but worldwide. But we’ll wait until it passes to go down that road. Until then, stay home and stay safe.

If it clears soon, I don't think it will be too hard to restart the economy. If it drags out and the people begin to really pile up the debt trying to keep going and businesses begin to die, then yeah, this could be devastating.

There are 660 Hospitalized with Covid 19. I wonder how many are currently Hospitalized with the Flu? That would tell us a lot about how much impact it's having.
