We're so glad to see new folks here on The Hwy. 
We upgraded our software a few months ago, and this version has some really cool features.
1-Most videos will automatically embed. But on youtube, don't use the url; click on "share" below the video and a link will appear already highlighted. Just copy it and paste into a post for the video to show. Many other video sources, including Facebook will automatically embed here. On Facebook videos, just right click on it and it will open a window that says "Show video url". Copy that and paste into a post. Easy cheezy!
2-We have a Facebook-like tagging feature. While in a post window; type the @ character and then the first 3-4 letters of a member's name. Their name, or more than one suggestion if there are some with similar spelling, will pop up in a box just below. Click on the correct member name and it will show up in blue and that member will get an alert at the top right corner of the page. If they have notifications turned on, they will get an e-mail.
3-There is a "New Posts" button just under the DallasHwy.Com sign at the top. After you click that, there is a "Recent Posts" button at the far right. Both work well and help to find and read new content.
4-Like most forum software, there will be a tool bar above the post window with buttons for smileys, etc. If you click on the icon that kinda looks like a flag, you'll find the quote, strikethrough, spoiler, and code button. The picture button looks like a picture scene. Click on the smiley button and you can choose between "Smileys" and "Custom Smileys". The custom smiley box contains lots of really cool smileys for your use.
At the far right next to the right arrow is a cool feature called Giphy. If you click on that and enter a search term, it will show you .gif (moving pictures) files you can post to a thread. It looks like this:
5-Because of the high caliber of the membership here; there is almost no need for moderation, and the mods are perfectly happy not having to put their badges on. Our mods and IT personnel are identified by the title of "Staff Member" under their avatar. Their jobs are not only to keep the peace, but also to Serve and Protect; so feel free to ask any of our staff members if you have questions or need help. We do have a moderator account called Hwy Patrol that can be used by any of the mods in situations where anonymity is needed, and an Admin account for Administrator use. It will be rare, if ever, that you see these guys as long as the roads stay safe and friendly here.
Last but not least; we have a user account named Ted The Test Dummy that we use now and then just to test settings and stuff. He sneaks out now and then and posts something really stupid, but that's because he's a dummy. 
Finally, for now anyway, there's a Donate button also under the DallasHwy.com banner at the top of the page. We occasionally sell an ad (and they are available for a very low price), but other than that, the bills here are paid by member donations and the rest comes out of Grey Colson and my pockets. This forum is free for our members to use, but if any of you ever feel led to help out with the bills, it would certainly be appreciated as there are annual domain renewals and hosting cost we have to pay. But regardless, this forum is here for your enjoyment and information, so we hope you drive on The Hwy often and enjoy your ride.
