Have gotten SO expensive! :rant

I got an email, thought I'd go browse some new patterns. I saw some really cool stuff (that was similar to stuff I'd made before) and I thought it'd be cool to try those variations. Then I saw the PRICE! $10 EACH! For downloadable PDFs!

Think I'll just make up my own.

I wondered the same thing... I am new to it, so I thought maybe that was the norm. I keep findig cute stuff to make, but I really don’t want to pay $5-$10 for a pdf pattern, then turn around and have to buy the material. I am trying to keep this little “hobby” of mine as low cost as possible, lol.

So, I have it all bookmarked so when I get better I will try to figure it out on my own.

Aren't patterns usually on large sheets of paper? How could you use a pattern if it's on 8.5x11 pieces of paper?

LOL Sometimes... it depends on what you are making, I guess. Most of what I have seen is more than one page. You have to cutit out and peice it together.

I enjoy designing and sewing scrap quilts and pillows
and letting the fabrics determine the creative process...

LOL I used to think that about my Mother. She would see something and have to buy it not knowing what she how she would use it. I have gotten so much more interested in sewing since I lost her. I guess it is maybe my way of staying close to her.

Thanks Madea for posting all these great sewing links. I had not explored the internet too much yet for sewing. Having a hard enough time w/ the regular stores! ;)

It reinforces my search for the free patterns.

And Kattie, I completely understand. Sometimes you don't realize how important these things are until someone is gone. Sewing keeps me close to my Granny. :love I never attempted a pecan pie until my Nanny was gone.

Yes, I started sewing when my Granny Francis
passed and inherited a box of her old fabric...

I have a box of my Mama's old patterns. 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's type clothing. If you are interested in looking at them, give me a holler.

Oh wow! That is a dress my grandma would have worn when she was raising her kids. lol

Sometimes I wish we still dressed that way.

That's really cool! I'd make that dress, but I got rid of my crinoline! :))

I have a few older patterns too. I should frame them and put them on the sewing room wall.
