AMC Theaters: Hiram 14 Could Close Due To Coronavirus Losses

Actually, it's looking likely that none of them will reopen. It's just a matter of time until the brink and morter theater goes the way of Blockbuster Video, anyway. Home theater is here to stay.

I think theaters will go the way of the Drive-In. Independents may hold on, but with the availability of all the streaming services there is no need for theaters other than the fact people do crave "an experience" and going to a theater gives you that.

We still have two Drive-Ins in San Diego. A month ago they were allowed to open (which is dumb that they even had to close in the first place.) The owners have seen a resurgence because the Drive -In is one of the few things available for families to get out and do together for entertainment with the lockdown and social distancing.

The ability to watch a movie when you want at home is huge. Theater tickets are so expensive now. Generally, I go to the matinee to be able to afford it... who has time in the middle of the day to see a movie? So I just don't go.

In the past 10 years, I might have gone to the movies once a year. Last year I saw 2 movies. We went early to get the less expensive price. The last movie I went to was with a dear friend who has parkinson's, and does not get to go out much. She wanted to go see the movie "Yesterday", so we did. It was a hassle to even find a theater showing the movie, at a time we could go, that was even close to affordable. There were only 2 other groups there for our movie, so there was no noise or distractions. It was a good movie and I enjoyed it, but not enough to even plan to go again.

When you watch at home no one is talking or unwrapping candy (or kicking the back of the chair) causing you to miss what is being said on screen- and if they do, you can back it up and watch again. ;)

The way I see it as an old fart is that we will be paying $10 to $20 to stream a movie in our own homes. I won't be playing. I hope that CBS has some good sitcoms on.

I won’t be playing either but we’re not big movie watchers anyway.

We're already paying nearly that much for BlueRay 3D disks. 4K is even more. But, we own them and can what as many times as we want. I'm OK with that. No difgerent from buying CDs or whatever.

There has not been a movie in the last 20+ years that I would go to the theatre to watch. I despise computer generated crap, comic book crap, every other word the F word dialogue, alternative lifestyle stories, gratuitous violence (Tarentino), talentless actors, remakes, ongoing series that should have stopped at one or two sequels (Star Wars and every comic book based movie) and horrible screen writing. So in other words my choices have been very limited. Not to be redundant because I have stated it before I have been to the theatre twice since 1994. Once with a Marine friend/brother to see Gods and Generals and once with my mom/brother/SIL to see American Sniper. Liked G&G, A.S. was just OK.

It's been a "thing" for the Mrs. and I to go see the Star Wars and James Bond movies in the theater, although we missed the last Star Wars. Other than that, we don't go to the theater much. I do like some of the Marvel stuff, but for the most part nothing has excited me enough to go out and see it or even rent it in maybe 20 years. Oh, and remakes are just lazy money grubbing studio executives too cheap to pay for a screenplay.
