Anyone want a spare TV?

Just a comment on the current state of electronics.

When we first started getting serious, Mrs. Mac turned me on to shopping at Goodwill. If you haven't been there, well I can relate to the thoughts of "Ewww, who would want to buy someone else's stuff?" But, I've come around and found there are some killer bargains to be had.

Anyway, I've noticed over the last few months that there are a large number of big televisions showing up. And I'm not talking non-name brands. Sony, Toshiba, etc. 26" and up. Multiple inputs, including component and S-Video. Pristine condition.

I'm guessing that since most folks have turned into flatscreen junkies, they are dumping their old tube sets.

So, if you need a nice screen for the bathroom it might behoove you to hit up the Goodwill store.

And FWIW, I'm still kicking myself for not snatching up some killer speakers I saw a few weeks ago. :BH

Speakers? You're "speaking" my language now.

Yes, I'm an audio junkie.

On the subject of TVs, it's hard to even give away a CRT TV anymore. Like you say, everyone wants flat panels.

We're spoiled.

I'm one of those people who is bad for the economy. I still use a TV set that I was given when I started working. It's actually older than I am. It's my only TV. I'm looking forward to its death, but won't replace it until it truly dies.

If at all possible, I prefer to run my possessions into the ground.

I'm like that with some things; but for certain stuff I like to have the latest and greatest. Electronics and tools tend to be in the latter category.

Just make the leap Madea. You won't reget it. I was holding out for our old box to play out but it never would. Gave it to the inlaws and am loving my HD TV now. :DN

Add me to the list that is holding back on getting a new gee-whiz TV. Mrs. Mac had a smallish flat screen before we got married. Non HD. We plan on doing a bit of splurging once we get to Nashville and get a house. Which at the rate things are going, could be a while.

We purchased a 60" projection about 5 years ago. It was grossly expensive, but my NASCAR fan just HAD to have it. I have vowed to never finance a TV again, so we are saving our pennies. It's an HD but at the time I didn't know all the questions to ask and feel like I really got taken. I won't make that mistake again. I just didn't know purchasing a TV could be complicated. For example, they led us to believe we'd be watching tv in HD without explaining we needed to purchase additional service so we've never had the full benefit of a TV that now needs a $300-400 repair that I'm not willing to make.
