Are you serious, Clark? :-o

Those were actually pretty cool cars in their day, and they have recently become popular as collector cars. The rare V8 models bring some big bucks.

One of my sorority sisters had a gremlin (it was a horrible purple.) It was always the butt of jokes. They called it the roller skate car. Seems to me it broke down a lot. But it was the 80's, so maybe the car was just too old.

It was not a car I would have purchased.

It's too bad AMC didn't make it. Considering their always limited R&D budgets, they actually had some groundbreaking designs and produced some pretty reliable cars. Their Javelin and AMXs were under-respected, and they faired very well compared to the Mustangs and Cameros, etc. An AMX in good condition brings big bucks nowadays.

You might recall that the James Bond film "The Man With The Golden Gun" featured AMC cars, and that made them quite cool for awhile.

If I recall correctly, my uncle had a Gremlin, first 4 speed on the column I'd ever seen. I couldn't figure out *what* he was doing with that shifter. ;)

My Brother and Sister-in-law had one each in the late 70's. I always thought they were kinda cool.

The Pacer was butt ugly. The only car uglier was the Pontiac Aztec. I actually kinda liked the Gremlin.

And the Pacer. My neighbor ended up with one and HATED it. I think it was borrowed from her in-laws until a car her husband had ordered was available...

Yup, the Pacer as well as the Edsel, the Checker, the Studebaker Champion (the one that was pointed at both ends) and last but not least,,, the 1959 Chevrolet!!!!

The wings and cat eye tail lights were not very attractive on the 59 Chevys.

Pontiac Aztec

Yes! This thing is horrible.

The director of the Industrial Design department at Tech back in the early 70's thought that the Pacer was the best car design in decades. While he was a really nice guy and did some great work, I sort of always "doubted his commitment to Sparkle Motion" after that.

It was in many ways, but the public wasn't ready for it.
