I'm reposting part of a post from another forum I'm involved with. The guy who posted knows the producer of the movie, and he's urging people to go see it. Once some of us do, we can post reviews in "The Drive In" forum below. It sure looks interesting.
In my opinion, the books The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged are classic American literature in a class all their own. Ayn's careful development of the objectivist viewpoint through her novels is something so special that we cannot leave to only the scholarly/educated, everyone in our country would do well to understand just why socialism is an enemy of freedom and liberty. In short; we need more people to understand this book.
With the Obamination in the oval office, massive national debt, and the democrats' push to increase entitlements and make things worse- I can think of no better time to educate the masses as to the horrors of this way of thinking, all the while exposing them to the joys of the free market system.
As you may know, there is a film version of Atlas Shrugged that will hit select theaters this Friday. This movie is the first third of the book, but it isn't merely reading the text- it's actually set a few years in the not-so distant future.
I have to admit that John Aglialoro, the person who has for many years owned the rights to Atlas Shrugged, is a family friend of mine. John struggled with Hollywood trying to get the film made by one of the big production companies, but let's face it, an anti-socialist, anti-communist movie isn't exactly what the Hollywood elite like to make. For that reason, he took a cue from George Lucas and decided to self finance the movie and do it himself.
As you can imagine, there are a lot of people who want Atlas Shrugged to fail. Hard core liberals are never going to like this film any more than hard core conservatives would like the next Michael Moore flick. As a result, there have been some reviews of this movie that basically state that if you are a liberal, you aren't going to like the movie and if you are conservative, you probably are. That's no surprise though- how many hippies do you know who would read Atlas Shrugged anyway?
Because John is not backed by Hollywood, this Friday's release is only at select theaters. I urge you in the strongest way possible to see this movie on opening night. If the turnout is good on opening night it will make it far easier to hit a broader range of theaters in the coming months. Atlas Shrugged is a masterpiece that deserves a broader audience and it is EXACTLY what we need this year to keep the tea party ideals front and center in national discourse.
