Avoid New York City...Manhattan DA to stop seeking prison sentences in slew of criminal cases

Didn't think the current shit hole could get worse... oh, but it will.... (and I loved the times I spent in New York decades ago...)

Manhattan’s new DA has ordered his prosecutors to stop seeking prison sentences for hordes of criminals and to downgrade felony charges in cases including armed robberies and drug dealing, according to a set of progressive policies made public Tuesday.

“The Office shall not seek a sentence of life without parole,” the memo states.

Under state law, that punishment is reserved for the most heinous of murderers, including terrorists, serial killers, cop killers and fiends who kill children younger than 14 during in connection with sex crimes or torture.

Bragg’s memo also detailed the following instructions for prosecutors to reduce charges filed by cops in various cases:

  • Armed robbers who use guns or other deadly weapons to stick up stores and other businesses will be prosecuted only for petty larceny, a misdemeanor, provided no victims were seriously injured and there’s no “genuine risk of physical harm” to anyone. Armed robbery, a class B felony, would typically be punishable by a maximum of 25 years in prison, while petty larceny subjects offenders to up to 364 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.
  • Convicted criminals caught with weapons other than guns will have those felony charges downgraded to misdemeanors unless they’re also charged with more serious offenses. Criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree, a class D felony, is punishable by up to 7 years behind bars.
  • Burglars who steal from residential storage areas, parts of homes that aren’t “accessible to a living area” and businesses located in mixed-use buildings will be prosecuted for a low-level class D felony that only covers break-ins instead of for more serious crimes. Those more serious crimes, class B and class C felonies, would be punishable by up to 25 and up to 15 years in prison respectively.
  • Drug dealers believed to be “acting as a low-level agent of a seller” will be prosecuted only for misdemeanor possession. Also, suspected dealers will only be prosecuted on felony charges if they’re also accused of more serious crimes or are actually caught in the act of selling drugs. That felony would mean facing up to seven years behind bars.

How does anyone think that is a good idea? The cities are going to go back to the mess they were years ago. All the work cleaning up the place will be thrown away.
You can thank the Marxists for getting DA like this guy elected in these liberal shit hole cities... all the plan to crash and destroy civilized cities.

Soros tried in San Diego to back a bad progressive, and thank God the people kept our DA who is good at prosecuting those that should be.

Off somewhere wearing a sardonic smile must be billionaire George Soros — the arch-anarchist who’s been lavishing big bucks on progressive district-attorney candidates for years now, and who kicked in a reported $1 million to Bragg’s campaign last year.

Soros-backed DAs reign in San Francisco — the smash-and-grab retail-robbery capital of America — and in Philadelphia, a city that posted more murders than New York last year despite having one-fifth Gotham’s population.

Now Soros has hit the jackpot. Bragg holds America’s foremost local law-enforcement office in terms of volume, influence and prestige. In other words, whatever it is that Soros has in mind, Bragg both owes him and is perfectly positioned to oblige him
— and on the grandest stage in America. This is not a comforting thought.

I may be the only one but I think there’s a chance of the streets being safer, at least within the boundaries of the local gangs. Sadly, these released may clean up the “trash” that’s currently destroying the city but of by doing so they continue to conduct criminal activity. I by no means agree with the decision in the article though, just hopeful that those released may actually do some good. Yeah, wishful thinking but a man can dream can’t he?

Actually I found NYC to be surprisingly nice and "safe" feeling when I was there three years ago for work. I rode the train from NJ to Penn station, took the subway down to Wall street. There were a few homeless cluttering up the subway stations, but there were plenty of cops and security thanks to 9/11. I wouldn't want to live there, I'm not a city boy at all, but my wife too wants to see it, and I was thinking about doing that in 2019, but we went to Yellowstone instead.

However, now I would push hard to not return no matter what the customer needs or her desires until I'm sure the security is back up to speed.

My wife would like to visit NYC. Not me. I've never had the desire to go.
Same here. Sorry, not gonna happen, not with me anyway.
I have been there throughout my life for pleasure and for business. Now it has been over 20 years since I have been (where does time go?) I can honestly say every time I went was magical. I loved New York.

It will be a great city again some day, perhaps, not in my lifetime.

The liberals turn everything to shit.

It's not necessarily the security that concerns me, I just can't support a liberal crap hole with my time and money. I can add LA, Chicago, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Seattle, Portland, and Austin to the list as well. I don't even enjoy going to downtown Atlanta. I'll pass and go to the lake instead.

I agree, but it is deeper that just avoiding these cities.

What Soros is doing by throwing millions of dollars behind a DA like this guy, is to purposely hurt our country by no longer enforcing laws meant to keep a civil society. A society that has constitutional rights. Soros is trying to get our country to embrace Marxism one small step at a time. When our society does not feel safe, they will give up all their rights to have the government step in and "save them."

It has been interesting to see the elite finally get angry about the smash and grab going on in San Francisco and Los Angeles... where the "soft on crime" DA rules have had a time to fester.

Of course when all the criminals have and use guns for robberies... they will say all citizens must turn in theirs... even though they could just enforce the laws we have and take the guns away from the criminals and imprison them for using guns illegally... funny how that works.

Instead, they will do nothing about those using a gun illegally, but try to take away the constitutionally protected ability of law abiding citizens to own guns... Soros and his one world marxists are scary bad evil...

There is some bad evil out there, and they are winning world wide.
