Birth announcement controversy

I'm not even sure why this is news, or why this young woman felt compelled to make it a news issue. However, a Villa Rica girl is complaining over the news that when she placed the birth announcement for her son, the Times-Georgian failed to print her parents names in the announcement. A similar fate to her sister who had a child (also as an unwed mother) five days prior to her. She says it's because she's a single Mom and single moms aren't getting proper recognition and "it's hard".

The paper's statement said that due to "legal liabilities" they didn't print the name of the fathers born to unwed mothers. Personally, I'm not sure why that policy would exclude the girls parents. The paper did point out that these are "complimentary" birth announcements. Even their spokesperson wasn't sure why parents names weren't included. And they stated that re-printing wouldn't help since it would be printed the same way.

Again, why did this require the news media?

Agreed. I've never seen grandparents' names in a birth announcement.

Only in Kentucky or West Virginia. Oh, that's bad. That was really bad. I apologize.

My birth wasn't announced in the paper.
Now that I look back, I think that is where I started to go wrong, I felt unwanted because my parents didn't want the world to know that I had been born.

Whew!
I feel so much better now that I have a reason to blame all my problems on my parents.
Before this I was having a hard time blaming them, they loved me, did the best they could to provide for me and tried to teach me right from wrong.
I knew all my problems were their fault, I just couldn't find a good reason to blame them.

Thank you single Villa Rica mom!
:thumbsup

Perhaps someone should have just told the girl that having a child out of wedlock is NOT really something to celebrate. Sorry if that's harsh, but girls need to learn to keep their legs closed - I'm tired of supporting them.

She AND her sister became unwed mothers five days apart. I think her parents have bigger issues to address than whether or not their names made the birth announcements.

My thought process EXACTLY! I was watching this morning and thinking, this is stupid, shouldn't be a news issue, THEN she dropped the bomb that her SISTER had faced the SAME issue 5 days prior with the same paper. :wut

If I were their parents, I'd be happy that my name wasn't in the paper, but then I have a job and my own teeth.

My hometown newspaper (Topeka Capital Journal) has always listed:

name of Father
name of mother
Town or city
boy or girl
date
