Clean up on 278

Rolling down the highway
In the past I'm pretty sure we used some community service folks to clean up the trash on 278 and major thoroughfares in Paulding. The last coupe of months I've noticed a private company doing the work.

Now I realize it's a dangerous place to be but can we really afford to pay someone to do that work?? Does anyone know when or why it got changed?

I've noticed the same thing over here where I live, ng. (Dallas Hwy) Actually they cut it this week.

This may be a stupid question....but...

What happened to having the prisoners pick up trash? Cutting grass on the roadways?

I asked my SIL and this same exact question and she asked me why would I ask something so hateful? :wut

I wasnt being mean, I just asked the question. I was told I was trying to "prey on those who are down on their luck" and those who "simply made a wrong choice"! WTHeck?

Am I wrong?

Wouldnt this be cheaper than hiring an outside company?

That's exactly what I was thinking. Many offenders have to do community service work. What's wrong with doing that community service cleaning up the trash people are throwing out their windows (that's another topic entirely). The trustees that got the opportunity to get out and get some real sunshine appreciate the opportunity to do so.

I'm thinking someone, somewhere raised cain over having them in "dangerous" situations. I don't know for sure but I would like some answers.

I still see prisoners cleaning up on Ridge and Bakers Bridge in Paulding and Doris, Cedar Mountain, and Chicago Avenue in Douglas. (Those are just what I have actually seen and noticed recently) It might just come down to 278 and the like really are just too dangerous to allow them to use that for community service or prison detail. :dunno

What needs to happen is those caught littering need to be placed on community service detail to clean up their own litter plus that of those who didn't get caught. I can't stand to see someone littering, I will honk obnoxiously at them.

I sti see the prisoners all up and down 61, and almost every time we go to the park (any park). They do the maintenance at parks, too.

Maybe 278 is just too dangerous because of the 4 lane?? :dunno

They help us clean up Paulding Meadows Park, too. They are awesome!

I passed a group of Douglas County prisoners cleaning up Highway 92 in Douglasville this morning.

Personally, I don't care who does it, if the county feels like a private company can maintain it, then I'm cool with it because the county has not done a good job of keeping the busiest road in the county clean. They do however still use community service people to clean up down in my end of the county - at least once a month I pass a group of folks picking up trash on one of the county roads. But, if we're talking about ways to save money, the cheapest thing to do would be for folks to grow up and realize that trash belongs in trash cans and cigarette butts are NOT to be thrown out the window.

That is what I'm thinking.

There are 3 totally separate prison crews that work Paulding County, one by the County and 2 different state "correctional" systems. The County runs 2 or 3 crews everyday but it's a big County with lots of roads. They normally stay on County maintained roads and parks.

The State has 2 different systems. One is the "probationer's detention center" (I think they are still open and one located in Paulding around the corner from the County jail) and only work state maintained roadways. Then you have the state prison system who runs a crew or two around the County but they are not exclusive to Paulding.
