Had boneless skinless breasts and chicken wing pieces (frozen) for $1.89 or so a pound today in 10lb bags. Picked up 20 lbs of wings and 10 lbs of breasts. May go back and get some more breasts.

Friend of mine says the meat pricing will get worse before it gets better.

Chicken will recover faster as its' only 18 weeks or so from egg to layer.

Beef on the other hand will take over a year to reach a level where it can get pregnant.

Hold on to you head Fred.

I want to get a smaller chest freezer for long term storage. I have a large upright now, but the defrost cycles tend to freezer burn stuff that isn't well packaged.

We had a chest type freezer, A) we could never find anything in it,, I think they frost up more than uprights. B) we lost everything in it three times,, once when Opal went through and we lost power for 8 days, then again when the breaker to that outlet tripped and we didn't know it,, and then when the compressor went out. Now we rely on the freezers from our 3 refrigerators which all work fine, but the only thing we take out and eat is the ice cream. It seems like in this day and age and with grand kids, we never have time to take something out to thaw before cooking it. Remember, the older you get the more precious time becomes.

We lost everything in our freezer once, I plugged it into a GFI outlet not thinking well and during a lighting storm it tripped without us noticing.

Was not fun.

Unfortunately all the plugs in my garage are GFI so hopefully when I get a freezer for out there, it will be new enough to not trip it.

Before you all go gung-ho, do the math to see if it's practical. Say a small unit for $350 that uses $50 of E/yr. you have to buy $100 worth of something at half price to pay for the E. Then you need to buy $700 worth of something at half price to pay for the freezer. All totaled you need to buy $200 worth of stuff at half price each year for the next 7 years to break even. Do you actually think you can pull it off? We start out with great intentions, then about the 3rd year we look up at each other and say, "What ever happened to that freezer we had?"
