DeSantis 2024.....now 2028?

I thought he would ride out the next two primaries. The purse must be empty.

Well, hopefully he'll have another shot.

Endorses Trump.

I’m very glad to see that, I truly think it’s best for all (except for Dems). He will be a force to be reckoned with next cycle. Maybe his “endorsement” will make the difference and force Haley to also suspend.

From what I saw on Twitter yesterday, DeSantis was saying he was going to stay in longer hoping that Trump would knock Haley out in SC and then it would be a two man race between him and Trump.

If that is accurate and wasn't just spin on his part knowing he was going to drop out today, I wonder what happened over the last 24 hours. Did he and Trump come to an agreement on something? I know DeSantis has said repeatedly that he wouldn't accept being Trump's VP but I wonder if he would change his mind or even if Trump would offer it to him. We all know Trump can hate someone one minute and be their BFF the next as long as they kiss his ass so who knows.

Question then is if being Trump's VP candidate would be good for DeSantis....I don't think it would but it would essentially preserve his 'number 2' status in the Republican party for 2028.

I was wondering the same thing.

Would being Trump's running mate be good for DeSantis? Depends on whether or not they win.

Would DeSantis be good for Trump? Yes and no. I think it would bring some of DeSantis' loyals over, but it might hurt Trump with women and pro choicers. So likely a calculated risk, but I tend to think it would be a plus.

Seems like you posted a link in the last day or two from a guy stating Trump would be convicted. I find that unlikely, and I suspect all these powerful people endorsing Trump also find it unlikely. IMO, the left and the neverTrumpers WANT us to believe Trump will be convicted. The left has been very successful this time at getting a lot of people other than their base to buy into their propaganda.

Trump stated in a speech yesterday that it's time for Republicans to heal their party and come together to defeat the Democrats. I agree with him there. He's been turning down the attacks some (thank God) and I hope other Republicans/conservatives do as well. It's time for unity.

I believe that link was a video of one of his attorneys that just dropped him. The chances he gets off on all 91 charges are virtually zero in my opinion. Most will be tried in left leaning areas with left leaning jurors. The left would love for him to get convicted between the time he officially gets the nomination and the general election. Many polls have shown that many folks, even Republicans, won't vote for him if he ends up getting convicted.

Trump already has a problem with women and those who are pro-choice because of RvW. DeSantis had signed a loyalty pledge and kept his word to it. I'm not so sure Trump would have.

Trump's idea of uniting the party is for everyone to do it his way.

Also, if DeSantis agreed to be Trump's VP and if Trump ends up having to drop out before the election due to legal or other reasons, that would propel DeSantis into the number one spot immediately.

Not sure how I'd feel about DeSantis as Trump's VP. There is definitely a lot of bad blood there and I'd lose some respect for DeSantis if he agreed to it but it ultimately might be the best way forward politically.

However, it is likely this discussion is pointless because Trump will likely pick someone like Kari Lake or MTG.

That’s why I hope Trump picks DS as VP, that way we’re covered for the next 4 years either way plus at least another 4 years afterwards.

Me, me, me…I’ll own it.

I have thrown those names out (as well as Melania) in the past but mainly was just joking (maybe). Neither would really help him but you have to admit it would be fun to watch people losing their freaking minds over it.

I think it highly unlikely that Trump picks either of those.

First, let me say that DeSantis dropping out hasn't changed my opinion of Trump or DeSantis at all. I still believe Trump is basically a carnival barker who will likely lose the general election. I also still think DeSantis would be a far superior POTUS.

With that said, after thinking more about the (probably unlikely) possibility of DeSantis as Trump's VP, I can see the following positives:

1. Having DeSantis on the ticket would bring in some anti-Trump votes that would otherwise stay at home or vote third party.
2. It would set up DeSantis for 2028 even if they lose the general election.
3. If DeSantis served as basically the hands-on guy who focused mainly on working with Congress and pushing/pulling the levers of govt, that may result in actually getting lasting change enacted.
4. Even before the general election, if Trump has to drop out for any reason, that immediately propels DeSantis as the Republican candidate.
5. If the Democrats stick with Biden/Harris (unlikely), think how fun the debate between DeSantis and Harris would be.

Also, despite DeSantis stating unequivocally that he wouldn't be Trump's VP, he could spin it using points #2 and #3 above.

Just some thoughts....maybe my attempt at coping. :( :D
