DHTV

You've seen HGTV....It's time for a little DHTV (Dallas Hwy TV). I took a couple pics of my second favorite room in the house, after the man cave of course. The garage is the last room to re-finish and my plan is to get a majority of it done this summer. Every other room has been up-graded at least twice in the 15 years we've been there, so it's time. Unfortunately I can't do it all in one fail swoop, but I think it will be worth it in the end 8) I've taken some "before" pictures to keep track. Since we have a drive under garage, everything is still exposed:

The first step is to have those paper thin garage doors snatched out and replaced with new insulated doors and belt driven openers. The living room is directly above the garage and it currently sounds like a train running underneath the house when you're sitting up there and someone opens the door. I believe the DC motors in the belt driven openers will be much more quiet.

We will paint the new garage doors to match the house color. The one in the photo is busted. The arm of the opener snatched SLAP OFF a few months ago.

The Garage Door Dude was out to the house Friday night and the new doors and openers should be installed in approximately 2 weeks.

My plan is for the garage to be the VERY FIRST Garage with the Dallas Hwy theme. I'll explain more later.

Step #2 in a couple of months will be to hang a suspended ceiling to cover the ugly insulation and duct work.
Step #3 will be to add insulation on the exterior walls and finish them out with exterior siding instead of drywall.
Step #4 will be to add a new door between the garage doors.
Step #5 will be to clean and stain the concrete floor and add decorative snap-together garage tiles where we park.
Step #6 will be to paint the walls and add certain decorative elements to go along with the Dallas Hwy theme.
Step #7 will hopefully be the addition of cabinets to match.

X-cuse me Lil Bro but I am sure you have left out a very IMPORTANT step...adding a slightly elevated rotating platform with directed accent lighting for your baby 'Vette ;)

How could I forget the dreaded Spinning Stage! :BH :laugh

Boy, we had fun with that one didn't we?! :laugh

Folks around here just couldn't appreciate it.

I replaced the garage door opener at my old house. Used some pieces of rubber, cut up water hose or tire can't remember which, to act as a "washer" between the brackets and beam they were bolted to. Also upped the horsepower quite a bit, I think I doubled it. Can hardly hear it now, and it is also below the den. Chain drive too.

Sounds like a lot of fun! I'm just wondering what projects there will be when we purchase a new house!

For a policeman, you sure are spendin' a lot of money. Just sayin'. :Ninja :D :D :D

It will take a while. We finally wised up after 25 years and save up to buy things outright.

Although it's hard work, we enjoy updating the house. We know we're probably not going to be buying a new place soon...if ever. One thing I know for sure. If we hadn't been doing little upgrades here and there over the years, it would look like the set of Sanford and Son. :))

Cool idea about the make shift "silencer" for your opener. I'll let y'all know how the belt drives work when they put them in. They called today to tell me they would install them on the 29th. Our old doors have been jerked up and down for so long, they're about to fall of the tack.

It would be exciting looking for a new place. We are in the first house we ever bought. We lived in apartments the first 7 years. I guess that's part of the reason we are attached to the place. 15 years of working on the place. You cuss a while, cry a while and pray a while...but it's worth it.

I can relate. Sort of like hanging onto an old car. You keep repairing it, fixing it up, and you know the car.

Should be fun with the new house. We've seen a few up here, a lot of short sale/foreclosures that need some "work." Plus. we figure we will be here for a few yars, so will want to make it feel like home. Already talking about making sure we have a nice sun room.

Well, just remember your friends are here. I bet they don't even have a Nashville Hwy anyway 8) I do love Tennessee. It's my home state.

I hope I can make it look that good....Probably not the "red". I want it more the colors of the site theme. Asphalt gray, black, yellow accents and a little Hwy green.

There are some really COOL garage pics on the internet I've been looking at for ideas 8)

I think a Pioneers mural on the wall would be a good idea and maybe a mic stand in one of the corners :whistle
