Electric vehicles....

Why not just buy a Prius?

What a horrible racket it makes. Ridiculous noise and rude to all who are subject to his car's power plant.
I feel quite sure that a plug in charger is going to be quite a bit faster than that silly little engine running long enough to get the battery from 2% to 100%.

Having to leave the engine running unattended is just asking for a lawsuit with that flame coming out the back.

Agreed, if you are going to do something like that, get a car engineered for doing it.

It's an interesting idea, but a better choice of engine would make it more civilized. Liquid cooled engines are typically quieter because the water jackets dampen the mechanical sounds. And of course, a different exhaust would help.

A small liquid cooled diesel with plenty of sound proofing would be a good choice. Should be able to get the noise levels down, and the thermal efficiency of diesel would likely be better as cost of operation goes. But a small liquid cooled gas engine would probably do fine as well.

As we've discussed, RAM has teased doing something like this as a range extender in their EV truck. Word is they are looking at a small turbocharged engine to power the generator.

New 621-mile range EV battery charges in six minutes and works in any weather

A little sparse on the important details. Like what kind of battery, what kind of effect does quick charging have on the battery life, how much of the batteries power does it use getting the cell up to room temp for charging, how much current does the charger have to produce to fill up a 600 mile battery in six minutes?

The world wonders....

It sounds fishy to me.

A bunch of smart people I follow are saying China is about to flood the U.S. market with far cheaper EVs that will also have better range than what we're building. Some of the EV start-ups will likely go under and even the "American" auto companies will probably be badly hurt. This is looking a lot like what the Japanese invasion did to the Big Three back in the 70s, but could be much worse.

Just remember who pushed all this on us.

If it happens then the voters will have a short memory spam, especially if they can get a "cheap" vehicle. People tend to vote with the wallets, not brains.

The whole secret to longer ranges for EVs at this point is extremely small light weight cars. Imagine a Smart Car that is electric, no options and doesn't go 0 to 100 in 3 seconds. You cannot expect a 2500 pound car to defy the laws of physics,,, it takes stored energy to drag these big heavy cars up and down the road, and at this point it takes time to restore that energy. There is no such thing as a free lunch, you will pay for it somehow, and that is the way it is !!

I've been saying for some time that the manufacturers are building the wrong vehicles. These EV trucks and SUVs are a fad which will wear off once people realize how impractical they are.

Where EVs make sense now are in commuter or daily driver vehicles. But not that many are being built. And even they are still not practical for people who can't install a charging station at home.

I just read an article in a trade magazine that correctly stated electrification of fleets are still many years away. Lots of owners, myself included, have looked and looked at this, but it's just not doable at this time without major changes to how we do business.

Normal people need to wake up to the plans the progressives, and the 3030 project people are making to take power and control the lives of Americans.

Most Americans have common sense to know this is wrong, but will not become involved until it is all too late... as in men now can be on our daughter's swim team and change with fully intact balls and a dick - nude in their locker room... and the girls when they spoke out, were "re-educated" by the university and told to shut up.

Better wake up America.
