Fact check: Could your December cough actually have been coronavirus? Experts say more research is needed

We won't know until we have a reliable anti-body test that people can get and afford.

I had a bad "cold" in the late Dec/ early Jan timeframe myself. Bad sore throat, cough, nasal stuff. Strep test came back neg. Since I didn't have the aches and pains, no flu test.

Three of my front desk agents - all college kids got a bad colds/sickness in December. Temperature, headache, body ache, then it went into horrible congestion and cough. I encouraged them to go to the doctor because I swear, it sounded like they would need antibiotics to get over what sounded like a secondary bacterial infection in their lungs.

The last one to get it went to the doctor closer to the beginning. She had horrible congestion that when she coughed you could hear all the crap in her lungs. They tested her for the flu A and B, and told her she was negative for the flu, that it was just a virus. They did not give her antibiotics because they do not help a virus. The doctor gave her a note for 5 days off work. I said are you sure you don't have a secondary bacterial infection in your lungs? She said that they told her there was nothing they could do that she would just get over it.

It took forever for the cough to go away and they were all sick for a long time. I did weeks of double shifts, working alone, because the three of them were out sick for what seemed like three weeks on and off.

We had been checking in people from all over Asia during Chinese New Year. Probably 80 % of the hotel at one point was people from all over Asia.

Now we are all wondering if they had Corona Virus, because the one who went to the doctor, was told that what she had a was only a Virus, not the flu.

I don't know why I would not have gotten it though, if it was the Corona Virus. Of course I went home and slept after my work day was over, while the college kids work to 11PM, then go out to parties while already sick and sleep deprived...

They all wonder if soon there will be a cheap/free test to see if you have the anti bodies, because they all think they might have already gotten it!

I seriously doubt it was coronavirus if they had congestion. COVID-19 gives one a dry cough.
It sounded just like my son when he would get a bacterial infection in his lungs and needed antibiotics as a child. He had allergies and a weak immune system as a kid. He was put on a nebulizer of Intal and albuterol most of his early years due to always being sick, to prevent asthma attacks.

Maybe they did not have it, because I don't remember a dry cough, they had a horrible cough, but more like their lungs had lots of gunk in them.
