Here's a dresser and chest of drawers I sanded the old finish from and then stained.

Here they are completed.

Here's a dining room table and chairs I recently completed.

I'd rather have all my fingers than sacrifice them for double points. Now Blazing Saddles on the other hand... Other hand, get it? :))

Those are beautiful! I have a curio cabinet that I will get around to doing one of these days. It was my grandmother's and when I got it, I was young and dumb and painted it. It should be fun to try and get all that paint off of it!

I've done limited furniture restoration, so I understand about some of it, but I have a new project for this summer:

The "Rec Hall" by waski_the_squirrel, on Flickr

This table is in the dining room at my church. It is at least 100 years old. The two ends would be easy to strip and refinish. What you can't see is that under the tablecloth are 2 leaves that appear unfinished and are unstained. I'd like to refinish the whole thing (and have the leaves match). So how would I go about matching the stain?

You'll never get the stain to match, even if you took one of the pieces you wanted to match some place where they mix stain. They may be able to get it close, but you would still see the difference.

You could you use a paint stripper, but it will be difficult and time consuming if the wood has carvings in it. I suggest finding some place where they would dip it in paint stripper and remove the paint for you. I don't know of any place in the area, but I've never looked for one either. Perhaps one of our members know of a place.
