Housing opinion question

Unless you put the new house on stilts, I don't think you will be able to get the slope needed to reach that tank.

Is it worth moving the house to that location?

I just remembered earlier today that my brother had a new septic tank installed when he put a doublewide on a part of the land that is about 150 yards from the spot for the new house. If it still works, that will save me a good bit of $$$$.

Also check the size. The modern codes may show you need a larger tank than the mobile home did.

My daughter's house has a 500 gallon tank from 1970, but I doubt you could get a new house approved for 500 gallons now.

That part of the land would require some clearing of trees since the part that was previously cleared wasn't that big and has overgrown some since then. And I like the new proposed location better.

I heard a hip roof withstood a tornado better... but if it is a big tornado... it won't matter.

I think it depends on what your house looks like.

Yeah, a tornado will take the house either way. However, there have been hurricanes that come up through the gulf that have caused quite a bit of damage in south Georgia.

Thanks. Lots of good info there.

I think I'll go with the hip roof which makes sense since I'm a very hip guy. :D

I'm getting ready to sign a contract by the end of this month and have two proposals from two different builders with two slightly different floorplans (basically same size and interior layout).

So, I have another opinion question.....

Assuming both options are the same total cost with essentially the same finishings, etc., which would you prefer? House with 24' x 24' attached two car garage or house with 22' x 38' detached three car garage?

Might check with insurance company, rates might be cheaper for detached garage.

Personally, I would take the larger one, but that's because I would need the shop space. And I would probably put some form of heat in it that I could kick on as needed. Granted, the shop space might not be as important to you.

I would agree.

I think I may do both....go with attached 2 car garage now with house and I can always add a detached 2 or 3 car garage later. Metal building garages are reasonably priced so adding one later wouldn't be horribly expensive.
