I have a question........

aka "The Jackal"
Most of y'all know that I am an agnostic, in that I do not believe in a traditional God that has ever interacted with mankind or our planet in any fashion. No need to describe further.

When someone on here or other sites ask for prayers, I will usually offer them if they don't know I am Agnostic, or I will offer good wishes if they do know. I have always thought that their prayers are helpful to people in need of comfort, and that offering them when asked might in some small way aid that comfort. I don't actually pray to a god for them, but If they believe that someone is, I always thought that that comfort was certainly worthwhile, and certainly I meant no harm. When I offer condolences or good thoughts or wishes, I am indeed sincere. I do think about those folks in need of some comfort.

So..... I was told by someone elsewhere that I should just shut up and stay out of it if I wasn't a "Christian" because I was disrespecting them and mocking their religion. I was somewhat flabbergasted, and then I thought that perhaps others felt that way.

So my question is, do people feel that way? If so I will most certainly refrain from commenting in prayer threads again.

Im posting from my phone so forgive my short answer. But for me personally, I know that your views differ from mine, I've always appreciated your well wishes and thoughts. Just as I think you've appreciate my prayers.

Just FYI, I certainly don't feel that way.

I am just a sinner, saved by Grace and firmly believe in God and His Holy Word, but that is not intended to be a "preaching sermon" at you or anyone else. No more than bragging about a new baby or that a child has done well in school would be.

It's just like the old saying....No good deed goes unpunished. We live in the land of the easily offended. There are many on this board who are Christians, but I have yet to see anyone SLAM another Driver for their personal beliefs. Debate on religious subjects is one thing, but we will not stand for personal attacks. Not against you or anyone else.

Even knowing your belief....or non-belief, I would appreciate your well intended wishes if I requested prayer. ;D

Thoughts, juju, good karma, prayers I don't care. If I am in need and know you care enough to think of me, that is what counts.

Ultimately, you show genuine concern for the well being of that person and in times of distress, I know it is appreciated. Only when those who choose to use the situation to harm others is when I get involved. For you ltd, I commend your integrity and concern to post in such topics. Many wouldn't.

I don't want juju or Karma... lol

Prayers and well wishes or kind thoughts work just fine for me

Plus juju sounds like I would need a rash cream to get rid of or something

Eh, to each their own. Many post those terms and are using them as good thoughts. If someone is thinking of me and wishing me well, I appreciate it.

HOW RUDE!!! I think your words are kind and considerate, and if I asked for prayer and you wrote what you just said, I'd be happy and encouraged that you were thinking of me. Ignore those other people. Hrmph.

Sadie I just reread this and it sounds sort of snotty. No snot intended! LOL I was on my phone and just quick responding!

Ltd - I personally think that your well wishes, prayers, and concern are greatly appreciated. And, even though you don't believe in God, your genuine concern for others displays more fruit of the Spirit than most Christians. Perhaps they are offended because you are stepping on their toes just a little bit....

I am a Christian ltd, and if I had a prayer thread out there and you wrote that you were sending good thoughts to me, 1. it would make me feel good to know that you took the time to stop and read my post and think of me, 2. it does make a person feel good to know others are praying for them, thinking of the, wishing them well, etc, no matter what they believe in or what. Don't listen to those others who tell you to butt out because you don't believe in God. As my mamma always said, to each his own.

Thanks folks. I will continue to sent out the good "vibes" when requested. There is one universal truth about prayers. They never hurt anybody, and I do appreciate them from y'all. Even the most heathen Georgia Tech football fan has resorted to them on more than one occasion. <jk>

I feel like when someone posts a request for prayer they are indeed wanting prayer, but, also I think they are scared or anxious about the requested situation and they need some "vocal" comfort. I feel like if you post that you are thinking about them or sending good wishes that is comforting.

I know I serve a God who listens and answers prayers and I also believe that a friend thinking of me is a positive feeling and believe it helps to heal also.

I did not know of your belief but if I post a prayer request and you post that you are thinking of me/my family, I know that would comfort me also.
