If you could go back in time, which era would you choose to live?

I got curious today listening to the radio. They were discussing how great it was back in the 50's and I started wondering, if I could go back in time, when would it? I am not sure if I would choose the 20's or the 50's. Both to me have their qualities that I like.

IF the advances in medicine were the same, I'd like the 30s/40s/early 50s. But if the medicine advances weren't there, I'd just as soon stay here. ;)

I've always had a certain romance with the 50's. Maybe it's just how history has portrayed it, but it just seemed like life was much simpler and wholesome then. They didn't have a 24/7 society, the middle class was based round a single 9-5 income and people lived well on it.

And that's when Rock and Roll came into it's own. What a great time to be a teenager!!

In many ways, that might have been America's peacetime heyday.

I remember as a kid watching Leave it to Beaver...I remember thinking I wanted to grow up and be a mom like Mrs. Cleaver :laugh

Yeah... I watched a rerun of Leave It to Beaver the other day and giggled at my sweatpants, dirty messy hair, and the wad of dog hair that was in the corner of the living room. I'm not cut out to be Mrs. Cleaver. Hahaha!

Where you at the pageant? Ha ha ha..just kidding, but one of the questions was, "If you could live in any decade, which one would it be, and why?"

I think the 50's would be lovely. It was post WWII and our country was prospering. You could stay where you grew up unless you wanted to chase a job across the US. Families weren't so splintered as they are now. Kids could actually play games and have fun instead of running to this practice or that practice every night of the week. Kids used their imaginations and ran from here to there instead of schlumping in a chair with a phone or laptop.

Folks saved $$$ to pay for things and I don't think they tried so much to live above their means. People seemed to buy what they needed and used, not a bunch of stuff.

Courtesy was common and helping your family and/or neighbors was common.

I don't reckon it will ever be that way again but it can be in my little part of the world. :)

The 50's were more carefree, but nothing was air-conditioned, cars were death traps, medicine was far worse etc.... It was simpler because we didn't know what we didn't have. Quite honestly, the near impoverished today lead a better quality of life than the middle class did then, minus the lack of steady income. Middle class didn't require all of the trappings that it does today. The middle class house of 1950 was 1000 sf, 2 bedrooms, 1 bath, with an eat in kitchen and maybe a 1 car carport. It is now over 2000 sf.

But speaking strictly as a little kid in the 50's, it was more than good enough.

SImple times where the Beaver and Wally were hanging out with Lumpy and rolling thier eyes at Eddie Haskle

I love the 50's era

Well heck, while we are dreaming....late 1700's early 1800's would be fine with me!
I need indoor plumbing and electricity

Didn't Mrs. Cleaver ask of her husband Ward "Dear, weren't you a little rough on the Beaver last night?"

I like the idea of visiting, not living, in different era's. I think that would be incredible!

Ditto you and Stellarvore. I'd like to visit...live, not so much.
