If you invite someone from out of state or out of country....

...please let me know in advance. To help keep spammers and bots out, I have the securities set to where some of these will require manual activation. If someone from out of town doesn't complete activation and I don't know them, I'll delete the account.

Thanks

I invited High Ho Silver, Midget56 and a couple of other FB friends that were not on the "other" site.

That's not a problem. I trace the IP and if it's local I usually approve them. If it's not local I'm suspicious of spammers or bots (computer programs). It's a huge problem on forums. We've already had some from China, Malayasia try to get in, and several from Dallas, TX.

It's good to know that our Border Patrol is so good at what it does! :)

I mod on a huge site where we have over 1000 people on it at a time. We have over 100 attempts per day from spammers and bots.

I still say bring em on.

I've seen bots that can drop a dozen posts in seconds. Some with pornography.
Don't take the chance it could kill this board before it has a chance to really succeed.

Probably wouldn't kill it, but they could cause us some grief. We had one at the other site that made 8 posts of gay porn before we banned it.

Some sick folks out there.

I guess I need to learn what bots are. I have a lot to learn about these things.

We had one awhile back that could carry on a conversation and answer technical questions.

I've experienced the dreaded "bots" on the site we owned and the majority were from outside the country, although we did have several members from the Netherlands that were members in good standing.

Maybe our Highway Engineer can give us further assistance. I would actually like to see members from outside areas. Their contribution to the site, if active, would probably be a good thing. Not saying that we should throw caution to the wind and automatically approve them without review.

I do appreciate the cautious approach Guard Dad and I will help with the research.
