Important Weather Update 04/27/2011

There is a Moderate/ High Risk for Paulding County for this evening and tonight for Severe Weather. Special notice is being applied to this storm. Super Cell Thunderstorms will develop and push through the area. Currently, the time line for the worst weather is 9 pm to 12 am. However storm development can occur any time until then due to the instability which is in place. Following the passing of the system, the threat for the area will greatly diminish. The following is the most current information from the NWS which was briefed on a conference call today:

* Tornados will be likely. These will be long lived and will remain on the ground in long durations (also known as Long Tracking Tornados)
* Destructive Winds in excess of 70 mph.
* Large Hail greater than 2 “in diameter.
* Frequent Cloud to Ground
* 1-2 inches of rainfall.

Everyone should check their Weather Radio to ensure they are in “Alert Mode” and listen for further Watches and Warnings pertaining to these storms. Please be prepared to go to your safe place in the event there is a Warning issued for our area. Also, please visit the CodeRed link below and register for severe weather notifications if you have not already.

I'll be working until late and will try to provide any updates I hear. Only thing is, whatever happens in Cobb will have already passed through Paulding. But if I hear about anything specific moving east, I'll try to post it here.

Crap, man - 2" hail ain't nothin' to sneeze at!!! I was at the parental units' abode when such a storm came through a good number of years ago and the hail (not 2", though) broke every single window in the front of the house (house faced west). I can't imagine the damage 2" hail would do. !!! :eek:

Just think about it. We can always say we've been through hail together :eek: :))

In the approx. 12 years that I have lived here, I have never heard them go on about storms like they are about these that may be coming tonight. I'd be lying if I said it wasn't a tad bit unsettling. Have they just gotten more dramatic or are these really that bad ... or is it a bit of both?

The University of Alabama has just been hit by a Tornado. early reports are that a dorm was practically destroyed. It's coming folks.

I agree. They've definitely made their point about the severity of the expected storms. I know on one of the weather boards, the guys have been talking about this for days!

Birmingham is getting it handed to them now. While I feel for the people there and hope that nobody is hurt, I have to admit to almost enjoying watching the amazement that is nature.

Crap ... just now hearing "extreme damage on the west side of Birmingham." :(

Nothing yet here from the weather spotters but I am om the frequency listening so I can post when it is Ga..

Gonna be a long and ugly night. Looks like Cedartown and Rome are in line for the first local hit and then it's on.
