Interesting article on concealed carry permits...

I agree with him. There was a 2nd amendment supporter that for a while kept going down to the ATL airport and walking around with his AK over his shoulder. All he did was make people uncomfortable with *all* 2nd amendment supporters.

As I tell new parents... pick your battles. If you are carrying for protection, it's much better to be like Perry ... be armed and the bad guys have no clue until it's too late for them.

I shake my head each and every time I see someone open carry and think to myself, "That idiot has made himself a target." I'm a firm believer in the 2nd, but I wish those who demonstrate supporting it would leave their rifles at home. There's no need to carry them slung over your shoulder or "at the ready." All it does is make people nervous and make them look stupid as hell.

Pretty much sums it up. The only place I open carried was at a liquor store on Memorial Drive in Cabbagetown we would stop at after work. The place was so bad that cops would sometimes hide in the coolers to catch the next armed robber. Every time I got out of the car 2 or 3 of the lowlifes hanging out in front would scatter because they thought I was a cop. The owner of the place loved to see us come in, so much so that once when he was pretty sure that a couple of dudes we're fixing to rob him he quietly asked us to stay until the cops got there. At the time it was illegal for him to have a gun behind the counter. Can you imagine living that life every day, wondering if you were going home that night?

I pretty much agree with Neil. I am 100% 2nd amendment but I do think the open carriers look like dumbasses most of the time. Maybe it is compensation for other shortcomings. I know a local builder who is in his early 70's who open carries. I saw him last summer at HD. He was in shorts, high socks, boots and a Glock 23 on his belt. I started laughing at him and he got a little pissed but I kept laughing. I have not spoken to him much since then. I have no issue with people exercising their carry rights but I think I also have the right to think they look like idiots. By the way he was not the only one present armed just the only one that looked like a bad B-Movie.

My problem with the whole thing is identifying the good guys from the bad guys without a program.
Example: I'm in a restaurant when an armed robber comes in. I pull my weapon to confront the robber. Someone in the back are sees me pointing a weapon and thinks I'm a terrorist and blazes away at me.

You'll almost always have people who are perfectly capable of intervening in such a situation, while you'll also just as likely to have a knee jerk reactionary, with various shades of skill in between. I/we can be sure to keep our heads screwed on tight in an emergency,,, but it's the folks I/we don't know that will get us killed.

I mostly agree as well.

To be clear, open carry people generally do not scare me. As a rule, people who are commit a crime will not be advertising it. But I know oper carriers do make a lot of people uncomfortable.

I also think they are setting themselves up for trouble. It's but a matter of time until someone either tests them or runs their mouth to start some crap, and the odds are too high that things will escalate.

Lastly, an open carrier has given up their element of surprise. The who point of being armed is so you can defend yourself and loved ones in the event of a dangerous situation, and if you're open carrying and you're in a place where stuff is about to go down, you're the first one the bad guys will target and or take out.

I'm a supporter of carrying, but concealed is smarter.

By the way our own Paulding County Probate court has a systemic history of denying carry permits. This has occurred under the former judge and now the new judge. If there is any blip on your background or application the court unlawfully shifts the burden of proof from the court to the individual. This is a violation of due process. In this country you are innocent until proven guilty under law. Not social media, not mainstream media, not idealistically, not at a judge's whim, but under law this truth holds self evident. Georgia is a "shall issue" state and this court on occasion violates that mandate at will. This court has been and apparently still is a closet of liberalism hiding behind conservative clothes for political reasons. Please remember that at the voting booth.
