It\'s Hot Here in the Desert

I arrived at Sierra Vista, AZ for a conference this week at Ft. Huachuca. It's a nice dry heat and my sinuses are still giving me fits. It's not as bad as it was the past few days though.

Mrs. Mac and I are in Phoenix. BEAUTIFUL weather today! We left this morning about 7:30AM (local, 3 ours behind East Coast) for a drive up to Sedona. It was great! Highly recommended. Sure, Sedona itself is a tourist trap sort of town, but some good food and interesting stuff to look at it. And, the scenery is amazing! We got back about 12 hours later, after stopping for dinner at the Tortilla Factory in Scottsdale (featured on the Food Network).

If you ever find yourself in the neighborhood, be sure to check out Sedona.

I retired out of Ft Huachuca in May '82. Left the area in '87. I probably wouldn't reconize the place.

Gotta love the dry Arizona heat. I remember visiting as a kid during a horrible heat wave and the AC in the RV died....fun times!

I'm sure in some ways the place has changed. They tore down a housing section on post back in 2005 and constructed a new one on the site finishing it in 2006. Sierra Vista hasn't changed since I was here last in 2005-2006 for a course.

They have a force protection exercise going on today and tomorrow which will cause delays getting on post.

I doubt I have time to do much while I'm here. My sister lives in Phoenix and she's coming down here Thursday as we finish at 1pm. I fly back Friday morning. The drive from Tucson to Sierra Vista is the same; nothing in between.
