So here are a couple of pics of keyfobs I have been working on lately. I know they have been around forever but I have had a lot of fun doing them.

I currently have a brother LB6770 that I purchased at Costco. It is a good machine for home use. For the embroidery it only has a up to 4x4 field. That can tend to limit the size of designs to be embroidered. It is a good machine and I have been happy with it.

Since getting into the embroidery part I have been on a couple of forums and learned alot. They say that the combo machines are not the way to go. It is better to have 2 separate machines. I think the quality could be just a little better and it does take a few minutes to place the emb. attachment to the machine and change needle attach. for it. You have to take that all back off and put on the regular needle attach to start sewing again.

I would not mind in the future making a little spare $$$ with it but feel like I should have a slightly better machine. I would like to have the brother pe770. It has a 5x7 emb. field and I could step up just a little higher and get a 6x10 field. I will have to consider that when the time comes. Here is the model I am currently thinking about:

The emb. is so much fun for me. You can do so many cool things for the home and give as personalized gifts and everyone loves that. You do have to learn about stabilizers. They are applied and used to keep the chosen fabric in place as it is being worked. There are several to keep track of. I found a list to use and there are lots of great tutorial vids out there. Of course type and weight of thread is a factor too. You need to be aware of what particular brand of thread your machine seems to prefer. Mine seems to prefer a 40wt rayon or cotton. It can foul up if I use a polyester thread.

My MIL has 2 Babylocks machines. They are the cadillac of home emb. machines. I am praying she leaves me one in her will. I would love to have one sooner. lol

If you ever think seriously about purchasing one be ready to spend betwixt $600 and up to $1K for a decent one. Don't go cheap on these.

Girl, you have done your research! All I know about sewing is to throw some thread in the machine and hit the gas peddle! )

Seriously, no one ever taught me to see. I just sat down and kind of meddled with it til I figured out a few things. I should take some classes when I get a new machine.

Oh dear deewee, I still have lots to learn but have learned alot since I started. My Mother always sewed. She made our clothes and would make her own patterns. Amazing to me. I kinda started sewing the way you did, just sat down with a pattern and learned. I can just get lost in this stuff. All the world melts away.

I don't even know how to read a pattern unless its just a shape cut out of paper. All the other lines & stuff confuse me. LOL

There is also projects they call "in the hoop". It means your whole project is done inside the emb. hoop. I think there are a ton of coin purses, comp notebook covers, ereader covers and several others things. This will be one of my next things to do. I have a onesie to do first.
