Lava rock project

Boss 302

This is such a pain to do. The weed barrier underneath the lava rock lasted twenty years, and weeds started popping through. I have to move the lava rock to remove the old barrier, hoe the weeds out, put the new barrier down, and then cover it with lava rock. The hardest part is moving the lava rock out of the way and spreading it again. I hurt enough, as it is with rheumatoid arthritis. I'll work for 30 minutes and then rest for 30 minutes, which makes it longer until the project is finished.

Man, you must be as rich as Mudflap to afford to have people do that for you. :)

Yeah, I just started spraying week killer on it rather than deal with trying to put new weed cloth down.
Agree!

My mom has rocks in the front bed. Same problem; weed barrier failed years ago. I just spray Round-Up when I see weeds starting. Hers is only 25 feet or so by 4 feet, so it is pretty quick.

All the other beds had rocks too. Over the years I have taken them all out. Those beds, I had to have a screen over a wheel barrel to separate the dirt from the rocks.

What a pain!

I had to dig down a foot or more to get the rocks out and have soil to plant in . Even now when I plant new seasonal color I will find there are rocks still in the soil. I think it is the gophers who till up the rocks with the soil to the top.

I hate rocks and would never put them in a flower bed.

Weeds will still come up even with landscape fabric. As silt builds up on top of it, weed seeds will germinate. I did the flowerbed in the pool area right; put down the commercial grade weedblock fabric. But they still sprout on top of the stuff.

There were no weeds here until a year ago. The old fabric did its job for 20 years.

I'm busy today trying to get my new Smoker/Grill out of the truck bed. Three guys had to put it in there, and all I have is myself and my son,,, and our combined wits. He leans toward taking it apart in pieces and putting it back together on the patio. We shall see.

I bought a smoker/grill once at Lowes and they put it in the back of my truck. When I got home, I opened the box and took it piece by piece as I put the thing together.

Yeah, if they are made well, those suckers are heavy! I bought one of the smaller RecTeqs, and still had to have help getting it off the truck.

Well, it's on the lower patio, and I kept it in one piece. I found a nice embankment to back up to, then turned the truck around and towed it back to the house. I really need to fix my Skid Steer so that I can lift heavy objects when needed.

I put the forks on my tractor when I have to unload really heavy stuff. Comes in handy.
