Let the impeachment trial begin!

Shifty Schiff's report claims the president undermined national security. Not one single witness was able to say they heard the president tell the Ukrainian president he would not release the money until an investigation into the Biden's was announced. What they have is nothing more than hearsay and speculation from witnesses. Five people were deposed, but did not testify in front of Schiff's panel. Why is that? Since Schiff allowed speculation to be fact, I'll speculate. I say those who were deposed and did not testify had said things that would have undercut Schiff's impeachment attempt.

Let the House vote on impeachment and if passed, let the impeachment trial begin. I would love to see Schiff have to testify as a witness in the trial. He can explain his meetings with the whistleblower and then explain why he said he never met with the whistleblower. The Senate can make the whistleblower testify in an impeachment trial. This will be very interesting to watch. It will also be very interesting to see whether or not LTC Vindman takes the 5th when he has to testify about who informed outside the WH. As I said before, this guy broke the law when he did so and that's why he did not want to answer those questions and why Schiff forbid questioning him about it.

As I said from the start, this was never intended to be a successful impeachment. It's whole purpose is to try and ruin the president in the court of public opinion.

But from the polls I've seen, that isn't happening. It might even be helping him. If nothing else, it's energized his base and further united the GOP. A lot can happen in short periods of time, but if the election was held today, Trump voters would flock to the polls while Democratic voters would be like ehhh, whatever. There is very little energy on the other side.

I don't know if any of you have been watching the TV show Madame Secretary, but this season runs parallel with the Trump impeachment effort. In the show, the newly elected president played by Tea Leoni has a Congressional smear campaign against her. She's accused of having the Iranians helping her get elected and members of a congressional hearing panel are spinning and twisting the truth to fit their agenda to oust her from office. The latest episode ended with her waking up to hundreds of thousands of people outside the WH chanting, "She's our president." I wonder what the Democrats would due if hundreds of thousands of people stood in front of the WH and the streets of DC chanting, "He's our president." It would be interesting.

People have a brain that last about three months. I hope the dems keep pushing this nothing burger. My impression is the independents are the ones saying Trump should not have asked them to investigate, but it is not an impeachable offence. Plus it shows how swampy Biden and son/Hillary/Obama et all have been.

Like you said, the public believes in justice. Many are watching the lack of due process. Americans have watched TV shows featuring the justice system for decades. They do not see justice in the impeachment hearings... so while I am tired of it and have tuned it out, I think it has helped people start to see how Trump has been railroaded by haters.

Johnathan Turley (we've discussed him before) defended Trump today in the hearings. He is no fan of the man, but a very fair minded Constitutional scholar. He made a very good point about obstruction being hard to prosecute when the Democrats won't even pursue court assistance in compelling testimony from administration officials. That is the path set out by the Constitution to compel witnesses who dispute the validity of a Congressional subpoena. The defense in the Senate is now simple, Congress didn't respond appropriately to the challenge. Excellent point.

Turley was the voice of reason at the hearing. He even debunked the bribery and quid pro quo allegations by stating no evidence has been presented to make such charges. I really appreciated how he used Obama citing executive privilege when refusing to release documents to Congress about Fast and Furious, as well as refusing to have members of his administration testify.

What I really liked hearing him say was the House was doing the exact same thing they are accusing Trump of doing.
