Machine also includes adjustable presser foot pressure, adjustable stitch length, pre-set stitch width and horizontal thread delivery. I found this on Joanne's website. It is only $10 more than the one you told me about, but is has more stitches, etc. What do you think? I stopped at Michaels last night in Hiram. They had nothin'. Actually, they didn't have much in the line of sewing or anything. I was looking for crewel kits, too. None. Anyway, I thought I'd ask before I make the horrible drive out to Town Center this weekend.

Have faith in me, y'all. I told MrB of my plans night before last and he said could see it now. Halfway thru my second project I get mad and irritated and declare I hate sweing, sewing machins, and anyone that ever sewed. LOL

MrsB, just as a suggestion, be sure to read the reviews about any model that you buy. What folks like or dislike about it. Just google that brand name and model number and you should be able to find reviews about it.

Some of us guys might be able to soup that thing up to give it more power!

I have a Brother sewing machine that also has a embroidery attachment. I bought it at Costco and paid around $400 for it. It had good reviews. All depends on how much $$$ you want to spend.

Do you have Costco's in that area? Every few months they run a coupon for a Brother sewing machine and they might end up costing around $180 or so. Just as with any product, you get what you pay for. You might want to check into buying a used one. You might get a nice model.

WalMart in Hiram has a bunch of sewing machines. Why not go see what they have and then do your research on those instead of driving to Town Center or Douglasville?

I will! I thought I'd ask here, too. LOL

I am just starting out, and it may turn out like MrB said, so I don't want to invest a lot of money right off. I am trying to stay at $100 or less, but still want something nice and will do a good job.

That is so very tempting. I do not like WalMart. I go into convulsions and I foam at the mouth just by pulling into the parking lot, lol. But.... not going to Town Center is a good motivator.... I will have to think about this.....

Just walk in and go straight to the back. :))

That Singer is probably a good starter machine. What I've learned from product reviews is that folks rarely review a product unless they are either very happy or very unhappy. The middle of the road folks rarely bother. But you can learn from other's comments. What I saw on most of the comments were bobbin related. So I would be sure and watch the DVD they mentioned on bobbin insertion. Singer is a trusted brand name.

I've had several used machines, including an OLD Kenmore that I think I still have at my Mom's house. Currently I'm using a Euro Pro that I've been pleased with overall. I purchased it new after my basement flooded 6 years ago and my machine happened to be on the office floor (haven't made that mistake again).

While I do read the reviews, I do feel the same as you do. I learned recently while stoller shopping that it is really one or extreme to the other a lot of times, lol.

GOOD! It has your stamp of approval! LOL I will!

Even though it was a New Year's resolution, I may go to WalMart like Unionmom said. But, y'all may never see me again as I may just shrivel up and die, LOL. No, I kid.

Go to the library and read a Consumer Report magazine on sewing machines. Might help.
I do not know why I didn't think about this. LOL
When I was growing up (and even still) my dad bout NOTHING without reading Consumer Report first.

You can make your WalMart experience a little less painful by going online to see what models they have available and then researching them. If you find one that you like, you can have it sent site-to-store. When it gets there you can go straight to the back to pay for it (Should be dead back there in the off season) and then get right back out of the store. If you have a long hot shower and a stiff drink when you get back home you'll probably recovery fairly quickly. ;) :)) ;)

LOL I wish I could have a stiff drink. I am going to look on-line this afternoon, though. We are D.E.A.D at the office right now so hopefully I will get time.

Oops. Forgot about that no drinking thing. How about a luke warm bath (no hot baths allowed) and a caffeine free non-herbal tea? :)) :))

LOL. You would be so proud. I did it. I went to WalMart. I looked and that had a nice singer. It is very similar to the one I posted. My husband is afraid that I will get it and never use it. lol I think I will. I am probably going to go back tomorrow and get it. I'll probably pick up a couple of easiy looking patters while I'm there to get started.

PS. I have been in a terrible mood since getting home. An old man almost ran over me in the parking lot, and a lady pulled her buggy out in front of me (almost hit me) and stopped. >:D Gah. :))
