This little gadget below is a P-38 can opener. They were first introduced in 1942 so soldiers could open their K-rations. They were used during the Korean War and Vietnam. They became obsolete in our military after MREs were introduced. The length of the P-38 is about equal to two pennies. Most of us wore them on the chain of our dog tags.

I keep one on my key chain to this day.
 
I used to keep one on a key chain, but it kept unfolding and stabbing me in the thigh.
Same here, but now and then I tighten it up so that it snaps shut. Mine is getting dull, I need to figure out how to sharpen it,,, or just get on EBay and buy another half dozen still in the paper wrapper. :thumbsup:
