Metro church completes $13.1 million payment to separate from United Methodist Church

It's six of one and a half a dozen of the other. In some cases the parent organization or conference owns the land and sanctuary that comprises the church. This is done to facilitate easy and early establishment of the church without pressuring the potential members for the monies to do so. Then once they are established the membership kicks back to the parent organization to help start other churches. Part of the buyout is the original building costs, startup operating costs and probably estimated future revenues. I don't think it's about control as much as it is about the ongoing growth of the religion and therefore the spreading of the word without the initial debt load on the membership.

Well the idea was that a UMC church would not be able to go outside of church law. Backfires when it’s the hierarchy that goes bat crap crazy. Also they never mention it but that church has not been paying. Their support to the mother church for years, so a lot of that 13 mil was money already owed.

I wonder how long before McEachern breaks away?

The UMC has been divided by bishops turning a blind eye towards gay marriage (which is absoultely against church's historical teachings). Bottom line, the gays want to be normalized, but folks are pushing back.

Vote has to be taken between Jan 1 and Feb 28 of next year. After than the option to leave expires. Education of the congregation on what's really going on is being done now.

Also, the problem is much, much deeper than just LGBTQ. The liberals are pushing that part of it, but many of them consider the Bible to be a fairy tale to explain our religion rather than the word of God. One of our Seminaries is promoting Unitarian Universalist teaching on their web site and have UU pastors on staff. It's nutz. They want to ignore the parts of the Bible they don't want to follow. It goes much, much deeper than just gay marriage, but that's all you see on the news.
