Full-Time Position Available:

Paulding County Public Defender’s Office

Paralegal:

This position is responsible for assisting attorneys during trials, organizing case files, preparing trial notes, performing legal research, preparing legal briefs and providing administrative support for the Public Defender’s Office.



Note: Position serves at pleasure of Chief Public Defender and is not a Paulding County BOC Civil Service position.



Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a certificate of completion from an ABA-approved paralegal certification program of education and training, or an associate’s degree or baccalaureate education in paralegal studies, or similar field.



  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Good communication skills, detail oriented, ability to multi-task and complete given task in a timely manner with minimal supervision.
  • Front-desk responsibilities including heavy client contact, primary person answering incoming calls, scheduling appointments for attorneys.
  • Other duties will include opening client (physical) files, taking applications, data entry and assisting attorneys with court calendars.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word; Knowledge of Microsoft Access and Excel a plus.
  • Bilingual – Spanish a plus but not required.
