Propane Prices

Serenity, through modern chemistry
I am about to refill my home Propane tank, but I have no idea of the current prices. I currently have a tank leased from Blossman, but that may change. Has anyone out here refilled their tank lately, and what did you pay per gallon and from whom? I have scoured the internet looking for Propane prices to no avail, so I guess it's up to us to keep up with prices. The other thing I'd like to know is the term length and conditions on rented tanks. After 22 years of rental, do I still have to buy product from that company? I would think that after so many years, the tank is no longer worth the rental fee. Let me know what you think, and Thanks In Advance!!!

Are you heating primarily with propane?

If so, you should consider going to a dual fuel heat pump. Basically, it's a heat pump on a gas furnace. The heat pump becomes your primary source of heat and the propane furnace only kicks in during extremely cold weather, which we don't have that much of. It will save you big time in propane costs, even with the increase in electric usage.

Spent 6k two years ago for new Propane burner, but I plan to sell and move in a year or so. House is 5000 sq ft with an upper and lower HVAC unit. Basically we supplement the furnaces with localized electric heaters, (none of us can agree on any single comfort level). I have what I have while I'm here, but would like to save as much as possible on Propane costs, and maybe others on the Hwy could benefit as well.

The difference between dual fuel (DF) and AC/LP heat...
Is a HP rather than an AC unit, and a fancy thermostat.

Less than a $grand at installation if you get a reasonable HVAC guy, per system.
And given LP prices... it would not take long to 'burn up' a $grand worth of LP.

IMO... ALWAYS buy your tank... and fill it when it is hotter than you know what outside...
:)

Refilled with Blossman today, (no matter of choice, they own the tank), $1.79 per gallon.
Who has gotten a quote lately?

My brother works for a propane company in South Georgia, he said that was a good rate.

Thanks, that's good to hear. Now if we can get other interested in sharing some quotes, maybe we can save some Highwayers a nickle or two. If I might impose upon you to ask your brother what their policy on tank age,(when do they start getting iffy for use), years of rental, and if the customer ever gets ownership of a tank. TIA.

He doesn't seem concerned with the age of the tank as long as it has a data plate and the pressure test is normal. The key is regular inspection and pressure test. If in doubt, replace.

Therein lies the problem. 22 years in my yard, and they have never even wiped off the cob webs! Unless they inspect and test on any of the four times a year they fill it, it has never been done. Anyone else see the gas company inspect your propane tank??? Don't be shy.

He is saying ASME tanks are good for as long as the data plate survives, DOT cylinders have to be respected at least every 5 years years. He said to post a pic of the tank and data plate if there is one so I can forward to him to see.
