PUBLIC NOTICE

The Annual Notice of Assessment were mailed on May 28, 2021. The notice informs property owners of the current fair market value as calculated by the Board of Tax Assessors and the appraisal staff, as well as provides the property owner the assessed value (40 percent of the fair market value) of their property (O.C.G.A. 48-5-7).

The Annual Notice of Assessment also includes estimated taxes based on the previous year's millage rate and the current year's value. The actual tax bill will be calculated on the millage rates set by the Board of Commissioners and the Board of Education for 2021. Millage rates are usually decided between July and August. Because this is only an estimate of tax, the actual tax bill may be more or less than the estimate.

If you disagree with information on your notice, you must file a written appeal with the Board of Assessor’s no later than Monday, July 12.

Going to be a double whammy this year when the rates come out as housing has gone through the roof, but the value of commercial property has dropped due to the pandemic killing so many companies. So total tax base gain is going to be lopsided and won't help the homeowners as much.

Homeowners are going to take it in the pocket this year.

Well, I opened it. Not as bad as I feared, but bad enough. 10.7% increase.

If the commission doesn't drop the tax rate a bunch, I'll break the record for taxes paid on this place. I'm beginning to feel like I live in the NE with the taxes here.

I was surprised to learn we pay less property tax for our house here in Cobb than our oldest daughter and her family pay for theirs in Paulding. A lot less.

Don't be. Lots more commercial property that pays taxes without all the cost to the county of a home there.

Your school tax will also stop the year after you or your wife turn 62, in Paulding, we have to wait until 65 to lose 50% of the school tax and 70 to lose the rest. :(
