Recycling Survey - Summer 2021

While we do recycle a bunch of items, cardboard, #1 and #2 plastics, aluminum, paper, and glass, that we take to the center ourselves, I agree that trying to make it mandatory would likely cause a mess of regulation that would end up being worse.

In Paulding County, and do they charge, pay or accept it for free? I've heard, (only heard) that the recycling center takes most things for free then sells it to recycling centers. All electronics and paints are suppose to go to the recycling center, but I have no idea how the place works.

It’s all free at the center except for bulk metal. That is inside the transfer station so you have to pay $20 to get in. So I combine that with dump runs. I’ve dropped off lots of electonics including commercial and they take everything except screens. Even LCD screens are too much glass not enough electronic. I know they have some budget, but I think the proceeds from sales helps pay the bills.

Me: Is it free? Do I get a discount from my regular trash invoice?

Survey: No

Me: Sorry, I don't recycle.

In the past, the money they made from selling glass and aluminum paid for what recycling cardboard and the rest cost them. Of course the amount they are paid for these varies, and it did not always bring in enough, so it was subsidised a little. This was 2013... their goal was to be self sustaining... a lot could have changed.

If you wanted more info, I am sure the person in charge of the recycling center would share that info... Tommy Leonard Recycling Title: Solid Waste / Recycling Manager Phone: 770-443-0119
