RIP Charlie Daniels

I heard about it during lunch. I didn't care for him much years ago but came to respect him and his work.

Charlie Daniels was a true patriot who supported not just the country, but was a huge supporter of our troops. The first song I recall hearing by him was this one.

Nooooooooooo.....

This should have instead been Betty White !

Curse You, Betty White!!

(this is somehow all her fault)

and on a separate, yet related, note.....

Kobe Bryant is still dead.

My favorite CDB song. I have a picture of the wife, Charlie and me taken in his trailer at the North Georgia Fair circa mid-nineties. We were just two of a slew of folks meeting him so we were not exactly close friends. He was a very big man but very cordial and easy to talk to. My wife sat on his knee (not his lap) for the picture and he said "don't get jealous but I ain't dumb you can stand behind us". He had that big CD grin on his face. I ask him if he could play Caballo Diablo in his second set and he said it was already on the playlist. He seemed to be a little tickled that I knew the song and album. Charlie played on Nashville Skyline with Bob Dylan. Story goes the session guitarist for NS did not show up for the first session and the studio hired Charlie to play for that day. At the end of the session Charlie was packing up and Dylan asked the producer if Charlie was going to be there the next day. The producer said no he was only paid scale for that session and the original guy would be there for the remainder. Dylan said negative I want this guy. They hired Charlie on the spot to record the entire album. I have heard Charlie and Dylan confirm this story. Charlie was a true American and a Patriot he will be missed. RIP big man and Godspeed.

If you have access to FoxNation, I encourage you to watch the latest The Pursuit with John Rich. He interviewed Charlie Daniels recently for the show and apparently it is one of his last interviews.
