Spitballs Considered a Weapon in VA School

When I was a kid in school, we used to occasionally shoot spitballs at each other. Apparently one school district in VA considers that to be firing a weapon at someone and suspended a student for the remainder of the school year. To make it more extreme, they referred the matter to the Sheriff's Office who in turn charged the kid with misdemeanor assault. The school originally suspended the kid for 10 days, but the BoE decided to make it for the remainder of the year.

When are these idiots going to realize kids are going to be kids. It's not like he threatened or stabbed somebody with a weapon that could actually kill somebody.
