Whatever. :huh

Yeah whatever.... whether she served ISS or OSS is irrelevant. This student was
robbed of her instructional time by a teacher with an ignorant stick up her butt...

:Stick

I gave you a "whatever" for defining a word I am familiar with and noting that there are two different things in my original post that some do not or might not know. She also could have only spent mere minutes in there if she had the incident, went to the office, spoke with someone, did an incident report, and went to ISS until the bell rang for the next class. I do not find a period, or most likely less than that, verses a day out of school irrelevant, did you not just state she was "robbed of instructional time?" I would think a day out of school, where most are not even allowed to make up work missed verses a period is relevant. Eh, maybe that is just me.

Has it been stated that the student did not smart off or become unruly as the teacher stated? I already commented that according to other newspapers there is a list of words in her room. I still do not know exactly what happened, if it was the student or teacher, do you?

back when I was in high school ISS was in a trailer. Each desk had a 3 little cubicle type walls around it. There was a line in the floor and your chair had to remain on the inside of that line at all times. You were not allowed to speak unless you raised your hand and were acknowledged. They brought your lunch to you and you ate in silence. You were allowed 2 bathroom breaks a day. At least that is what my friends who had it told me :))

I never took ISS, I just took at home suspension :)) :))

Rebels and Hooligans around here! :taunt

lol yep that was me...but I can assure you the punishment I had to deal with at home was worse than ISS lol I hate enclosed spaces so I couldn't deal with ISS so when I had a nice 3 day vacation at home my mom found plenty of work for me to do during school hours to keep me busy. It only happened twice then I finally learned to keep my smart mouth shut and my fist to myself :))
Heard that. All it took was one time having to dust out the erasers (chalk board erasers, not the markers they use today). Sounds fun at first but once you get that crap all over you and the dust chokes you it quickly becomes a good learning tool.

The simple FACT of the matter is that student said "bless you" and for whatever reason that teacher took offense to those particular words.

(As evidenced by her list of "forbidden" words.) The teacher was wrong to instigate such a confrontation by banning the use of free speech.

Maybe the student was challenging that rule, if so good for her. School is a great place for lessons in the civic justice and constitutional law.

My next question was going to be "how'd you know". :laugh

Or, if it was a block class (and my son has several) a significant amount of time could have been lost. :dunno

Could have been a block. :dunno

I visited ISS a "few" times in high school. It was located in a room in between the principal and assistant principal's offices. Your work was sent there by your teachers. You had to complete your work just as you would have in class. If you didn't finish your assignments while you were in there, you got a zero. Also, if the teacher gave an oral quiz while you were in ISS, you automatically received a zero on that and didn't get a chance to make it up. Lunch was in the classroom and you were escorted to/from the bathroom by either the principal, assistant principal, or counsellor.

You could also opt for a paddling and that would be the end of it. Mr. Hickman was deliver three swift swings of the paddle and each would connect with your backside in a manner that generally lifted your feet up a few inches (or made you step forward). After he was done, you would sit in the chair outside of his office until he said you could return to class.

ISS??
We received PADDLE.
If we screwed up enough, we received PADDLE and 3DAYSUSPENSION.
If your parents found out about the above punishments, then that was usually followed at home by either WHIPPING and/or GROUNDING.

I bet our school had less issues than the schools today.
(and we were part of the "drug" generation)

I'm glad there was no such thing as ISS when I was in high school. They would suspend me for three days for skipping school...think about that for a moment.

Sounds like mission accomplished!

The war on blessing continues :

::)

In this case, it sounds like he doesn't care if people say "bless you," but you'd best not do it while he's talking. He sounds like a hard-arse who runs a strict classroom and does not tolerate foolishness. I see him more as a control freak than an anti-blessing guy.
