The Mandate

My wife had been a nurse practitioner for over thirty years. She was required by all of her employers to have certain vaccinations. That is not unusual at all in the health care industry.
Understood, we have done some work in hospitals and I am aware that there are certain requirements. I recall one job we did where our guys had to either get the flu shot or wear a mask while inside the hospital kitchen area. All my guys who were on that job get the flu shot anyway, so it wasn't an issue.

For whatever reason, there are a lot of medical staff who are adamantly opposed to getting the vaccine, I personally know several nurses and nurse practitioners who feel that way. One common theme I've heard from many of them is that they have diligently served through this for the last year and a half, and now they are being threatened with firing if they don't take a shot. I kinda see their point, especially now that the threat might not be nearly as great as it was some months ago.

My only point is that there will likely be consequences for the mandates, and those consequences might be worse than not mandating the vaccine. We already have a severe shortage of workers and this certainly won't help.

all this would make more sense if COVID numbers were still really bad, but they are way down.

It is my opinion that anyone who quits their job because they refuse to take the vaccine is a moron.

Here's a question GD: on that job at the hospital that required your people to have the flu shot or wear a mask. What if none of your employees had taken the flu shot and then refused to get one and wear a mask on that job?

They would have at least worn a mask. No biggie

I will add...they wear masks now when required. Many of our customers do require it.

And I did when required. Been awhile since it's been required though, at least in the places I go in (pretty much home depot)

That didn't answer the question. What if they had refused as in, "It's my right not to wear a mask?"

Interesting. I was just on a work call and their are concerns at one of our customers that they will lose key individuals due to the mandate.

Some are quitting, but many are taking retirement/early retirement as a way out.

The knowledge drain some of these companies could take may seriously affect their ability to do business if too many people in the same department retire/quit.

If they still have pension plans, then those plans may be stressed with an unexpected surge in retirements.

Bingo. There is always a cause and affect...always. It doesn't matter what side of a debate you're on, reality doesn't exist in a vacuum.

Do you think truck drivers will follow the mandate in order to pick-up or deliver shipments at facilities which enforce it? I think not and with few exceptions. Just think about how that one segment could affect our overall economy. People need to pull their heads out of their behinds in DC.

A longtime McDonald's operator in the Atlanta area just announced he's selling all his stores. Reason? He can't get enough help even now, and if this mandate goes through he doesn't think he'll have the help to even keep his stores open. Minorities, who acconts for most fast food employees, are the most anti-vax group out there. So he's getting out before it gets bad.

Regardless of what any of us think about the vaccine or the legality of the mandate; the mandate will do more harm than good. I just posted that jobless claims are up, wait until the mandate goes into effect.

I see the problem being that the closest most of the 3rd+ generation politicians up there get to real world workers is the maids and servants in their houses. They think food just shows up in their homes and their yachts. I forgot who, but remember somebody in Washington made a comment like that early on when discussing "essential workers" being on the job. The liberal schools they go to fill them up with the "science" they promote that has nothing to do with reality. Even at his best, Biden and Hunter couldn't figure this out.

Finally

Fox had a prominent doctor on, I missed where she was from, but apparently a leader in her field.

She said we need to get everyone vaccinated who has not had the virus and has natural immunity.

She'll be in trouble with Sleepy Joe now.

The way you wrote this sounds like, she said we need to get everyone vaccinated who has not had the virus and we need to get everyone vaccinated who has natural immunity.
