To the witch (with a capital B) at Publix this afternoon ...

that took a full cart of groceries (over $400) through the express lane and then used a buttload of coupons ... YOU SELF ABSORBED WITCH (wth a capital B)! You inconvenienced a ton of people and for what? Should I have asked for your autograph? Surely you must be somebody important as you did the above without even the first hint of embarrassment. You took your own sweet flippin time and obviously didn't give a rat's butt about anyone but yourself. Get your head out of your posterior.

And I know we've all (or many of us, anyway) have accidentally gotten in the express lane but we at least have the decency to acknowledge the mistake, apologize to those around, and process through as quickly as possible. According to the comments around the store, she was aware of the lane she was in and still took her own sweet stinkin time.

(And no, I was not personally inconvenienced. I NEVER take coupons to the express lane so I was in another lane. I just hate seeing stuff like that.)

I wish they'd have made her go through a regular lane. I HATE rudeness. HATE IT HATE IT HATE IT There simply is NO EXCUSE for bad manners. NONE.

I actually would have been a bit ticked at Publix (where I love to shop BTW) It was their responsibility to point out that it was an express lane and show her to the next available regular lane.

The cashier should have told her, "I'm sorry ma'am, but you have more than is allowed in the express lane. You'll have to go through the normal checkout line."

Have you been to stores where they have self-checkout? I thought those were designed as an express lane? I see people with a heaping full shopping buggy using those. They'll have their kid go get an empty buggy to put the bagged items in, then often leave the buggy they emptied there. People can be such jerks.

A lot of stores have a corporate policy of not permitting store employees to do that ... unfortunately.

No way! If so then why have the sign?
They count on people to follow it.

Even Wal Mart employees can't say anything to customers about too many items. That's what I've been told by employees, anyway.

I've been told the same thing by Kroger employees before as well as stores "back home" so I assume other stores have that policy as well. I don't know for fact that Publix has that policy but since management ended up going to the lane and taking the backed up customers over to the customer service desk to check out I tend to think they do.

I believe it is a matter of "the customer is always right" ... even when they are dead wrong. ::)

Years ago that did apply. When, overall, people were respectful and kind to one another. That idea really needs to be looked at in this day and time. Many I run across are not kind nor respectful. It is all about them.

Sometimes the cashiers will tell someone to come get in their lane. One told me that once and I had a FULL buggy. I told her if anyone got mad, she better tell them it was her fault! lol

No question, that does happen. That wasn't the case in this situation, though.

That's right up there when you have five or six people waiting, they open a new register and say "The next person in line". People are SO inconsiderate that the very last one in line will run over there.

There HAS to be a better way :Stick

I was at the store yesterday and had 12 items. Because I had more than 10, I went through the normal checkout rather than the express. Right is right and wrong is wrong.

Agreed. I can honestly say that I count my items and will not get in the express line if I have too many.

has a cashier at walmart one time open up her line and the line I was in had about 6 people in it..she opened her line and I was next..she walked over got my buggy and walked it around and like 3 people behind me had already run over there..they looked at her and said we were here first..she said..nope I never said I was open and you guys didn't give me a chance to say next in line...she was next so if you'll fall in behind her, I'll get you all checked out as quick as possible!!! she became my favorite cashier after that..lol I always tried to go through her line when she was working. She was awesome!

I do not understand why Publix would not request she use the other lane. You either piss that one person off (who was in the wrong anyway) or many of their OTHER customers. You're correct, right is right and wrong is wrong, no matter how many items "over" you might have. Getting on the Publix website and sending messages might help.

Being that I work in retail myself, I can say that I've probably seen and heard it all, especially from those that I call 'coupon critters' They have an attitude of entitlement, that because they were thoughtful enough to use coupons, they get a special consideration in line because THEY are shopping smart, and that anyone else who are paying regular price can wait their regular turn while they get star treatment. No, this is not how all of them act..but you always remember the ones that act this way the most. And in most cases, they offer no apologies, and basically look down on everyone including the store employees, because they have this attitude that they were the first person to discover coupons and how to use them effectively. You almost wish you could have their transaction playing on a camera as they leave, so they can get an idea of just how ridiculous they look. Meanwhile have a big :Stick waiting on them out the door to make the feeling last! :p
