I guess a lot of it comes down to personal taste, and what we expect out of movies.
I do appreciate some of the older movies, especially the quality of acting back then. The standard for acting was probably much higher then, requiring more classical training. It seems a lot of people get to become actors today, just because they are a celebrity of some sort. Some of them are pretty good actors, some not so much.
What I don't understand is the aversion to technology and stuff like CGI or Playmation. While they certainly don't make up for bad writing or acting, they can absolutely add other dimensions to a movie and that can be enjoyable. The picture quality of newer movies on a high rez screen is pretty stunning, and the audio in modern movies can be amazing when played on a high-end system. I'm sure a lot of people haven't experienced a high-end surround sound system, but it can be truly amazing!
While there is a lot of junk that comes out of the entertainment industry, there are also some excellent movies.
While I respect people who like the old classics, I find some of the acting that those people like so much to be over-dramatic at times. Real people usually don't speak that way or react with such emotion or animation.
So yeah, I guess it comes down to our tastes, and that's OK. But I really think some of you are missing out on some amazing stuff if you don't embrace modern technology.
