Yeah... color me skeptical, but with Electric cars costing 40 to 60K and replacement batteries going for 20K... only the affluent will be able to drive.
I was in Singapore in the late 90's. A crappy Camry, that in the US cost $23,000, was well over $60,000 once they got done with all the fees and licenses. You could only drive where you paid to have a license, and if you were allowed in that area. My counterpart at United Airlines had all the access because as a Account Executive/Sales Person, he got to have access to the business areas many were not able to have a license to go to.
You had to get a new car every 5 years because each year the fees went up until it made it less expensive just to buy a new car. The old cars were sent to Malaysia.
I thought that was incredible unfair, however with too many people on a small island, that is how they dealt with it.
I often see what liberal US cities are doing and fear we may not be far behind.
