Quite honestly, there is just too much stupidity and rewritten history in his statement to even deal with. The change that communist China has undergone in 50 years is stupendous. To claim otherwise is ignorant or obtuse.
The conversion of China from Mao's "Great Leap Forward" and it's birth as a world nuclear power to China's growing middle class and their emergence as a world market cannot be ignored or equated. China presents not one tiny fraction of the threat to world peace or even to its own people that it did in 1970. In 1970 it was systematically killing millions of its own while simultaneously attempting to take over all of Southeast Asia and threatening the US with nuclear.annihialation. That isn't to say that they are to be fully trusted or that their internal abuses are to be ignored, but honestly, this statement was pure historical ignorance.
