The bomb in Centennial Olympic Park went off.

Ashlyn wasn't even 1 yet....we were on our way home from the olymipic park listening to a cassette and not the radio so we had no idea what was going on. This was before the time of everyone having cell phones. Heck I didn't even know anyone with a cell. My beeper was in my pocketbook on silent and had like a million calls from my mom. When we pulled up at my house my mom, granny and a family frien was there waiting on us to see if we were ok.

I was at work down loading all of the Olympic event scores for that day....each venue had to send scores and names to me so I could get them type set and to the printing press for the upcoming day...to be inserted into the Olympic magazine that was sold daily at all of the events....What a headache........

I was driving back from Atlanta alone.

I don't remember where my husband had gone, but he wasn't home that evening. The kids weren't around yet. I was home alone and decided that I hated missing out on the Olympics being so close. So I drove through downtown and viewed the sites and then drove back home. I did not know what had happened until I got back home and watched the news. It most likely occurred just a few minutes after I left the Centennial Park area.

Playing poker and drinking with some of my college friends,
we watched the news reports unfold on TV all thru the night...

We were living in an A-Frame house between Dallas and Cartersville, waiting for the builder to finish our current home. It was a very small A-Frame without airconditioning and it was nearly as hot as it is this year. All of our furniture, etc was stacked against the walls, leaving us a little trail to move around. Stunt Driver got an old air conditioner from his parents photography shop and helped me mount it in one of the windows. Good Times 8)

I don't know if it was the reporting in the area where I was or if it was because I was still a bit self-absorbed at the time but I remember thinking at the time that it wasn't a very big deal ... sort of a "thank goodness they failed" sort of thing. The impression I was left with was that it certainly could have been so much worse but it wasn't bad at all.

Probably the MOST unsettling portion to me was the fact that there was a woman that was killed in the blast and her family's home was ROBBED during the funeral service. :rant

In addition, the Richard Jewell stuff went on around here FOREVER!
