A local manufacturing plant is paying $16 to start evening shift, no experience necessary, $1000 signing bonus after 6 weeks, catastrophic health insurance after 6 weeks, 401k with company match after 6 months, and 2 weeks paid vacation. No takers.
A local restaurant is offering $18 plus $1500 signing bonus for experienced cooks. $13 for dishwashers with $1000 signing bonus. No takers.
The local chicken plant just went to 2 shifts from 3. You can't compete with free money.
Yep... I just worked 40 hours in 2 days.
I have interviewed people for 2 full time positions making ($16 to $17 an hour,) I called them back to offer the position to them, goes to voicemail and they never call back.
The Hotel is FULL.
People are traveling for pleasure since they don't have to work. Tired of being cooped up... in they come with their
Unemployment Credit Cards to pay for their vacation!!!!!!!!
This weekend I worked 5 shifts:
Friday 3PM to 7:30 AM Saturday
Saturday 5PM to 6:30PM Sunday.
Came home and slept 5 hours, and now I am awake. Since I have been working these crazy hours the past three months, my brain has no clue when it should sleep.
I can't get a break on keeping a stable schedule for my team. I am trying to keep their schedules normal so I don't lose who I have.
Between Covid illness, or quarounteens, freak physical injuries, and other odd problems, it has been hell the past 4 months...
For instance one employee had to go to another state to take care of her grandfather, who had to have a leg amputated. She is his power of attorney, and has to be there to make medical decisions. The leg had to be amputated due to complications from diabetes which was not monitored correctly due to Covid. She said the covid restrictions at the care facility stopped any family from checking on grandfather. He had been placed in the care facility because he became blind due to the diabetes and macular degeneration. The regular doctor's appointments also were stopped, again due to covid. Grandfather got an infection without the care facility noticing. (He is blind so he did not see it.) By the time the family was allowed to visit, to their horror, amputation was the only option. My employee may need to permanently move, so I have lost another great employee indirectly due to covid.
I can't find competent people to fill positions due to the government making it easy to sit at home and collect a nice chunk of money -
why work when it is as lucrative to stay home... and go on vacation with their government money?
